Firmness & Support
The REM-Fit Sleep 400 is a universal comfort mattress, which comes in one firmness option which we rate at a 7 out of 10 (10 being the firmest).
The Sleep 400 mattress initially a little firm to me, as I am significantly heavier than Kaye, I tend to press through the top comfort layers and feel more of the support layers in most mattresses.
After sleeping on the Sleep 400 mattress for a few weeks, the mattress softened up more and became much more comfortable and supportive for my 230lb weight and large 6’+ frame.
Kaye felt the REM-Fit Sleep 400 was the perfect firmness, by providing the hug and contour of memory foam that she likes, without feeling like she is sinking too far down into the foam and feeling trapped.
In terms of support, we feel the REM-Fit Sleep 400 mattress does a good job of providing excellent support in all sleeping positions.
As we are primarily side sleepers, we like mattresses that provide enough give in the top comfort layer to support our shoulders and hips, while also having the firmness if we switch to our stomachs and backs.
The Sleep 400 felt good on my hips and shoulders and did not cause any numbness or discomfort which I often experience with lower quality mattresses.
Comfort
The REM-Fit Sleep 400 mattress is deceiving, in that it initially feels rather firm and not as cushioned, due to the slower-response memory foam.
However, after sleeping on it for an extended amount of time, we found that our bodies adapted to the mattress and molded to the memory foam without feeling stuck or trapped in the foam.

Over time, sleeping on the mattress made it much more comfortable. The Sleep 400 also provided the support needed for my heavier weight and for both of us sleeping together.
The foam does good job at supporting our bodies and providing good responsiveness when changing positions during the night without causing excess motion transfer, at the same time not causing excessive sinkage.
Sleeping Hot
The REM-Fit Sleep 400 mattress does a good job at providing a cool sleeping surface.
We felt a small amount of heat retention from the mattress when sleeping at times, which is common for all foam-constructed mattresses in our experience, but it wasn’t bad.
The exterior Re-Ax Unleashed cover material with the heat dissipating features feels cool to the touch and makes the bed feel cool through the sheets, which is a really cool feature (pun intended!) and one not felt on many other mattresses.
In addition, the gel-infused memory foam layer also aids in reducing heat. All in all, the mattress does a very good job at minimizing heat during the night for an all-foam mattress
Sinkage & Motion Transfer
The Sleep 400 does an goodjob with sinkage and motion transfer, especially compared to most mattresses we have reviewed. As we always preach, sinkage (and motion transfer) is largely weight dependent.
The fact that I weigh around 230lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on a mattress. Kaye, who is half my weight, experiences much less sinkage than I do, but again this is to be expected due to her much lighter weight.

REM-Fit 400 profile
The REM-Fit Sleep 400 does an excellent job at minimizing motion transfer between sleepers due to the classic slow-response memory foam which isolates movement and did not cause excessive movement between us during the night.
We noticed immediately that any movement by me during the night wasn’t felt by Kaye much at all. I also did not sink down through the mattress and compress it with my weight like often is the case with all foam mattresses.
Edge support is very good with this mattress, and better than most memory foam mattresses we have reviewed. I slept near the edge at time to test this and did not experience any of the “rolling off” the edges or having them compressed under my weight.
Smell / Off-Gassing
The REM-Fit Sleep 400 had a moderate amount of off-gassing when taken out of the box and packaging, which is normal given the all foam construction which commonly has a degree of odor when taken out of the packaging.
The odor dissipated within a night and was nothing out of the ordinary compared to many similarly constructed mattresses.

Summary
The REM-Fit Sleep 400 mattress is a good all foam mattress that at 12″ provides a nice thick mattress that sleeps cool.
The combination of foam layers used in the design of the Sleep 400 mattress work together to provide a very comfortable yet supportive mattress that is ideal for all sleeping positions.
The Sleep 400 is particularly very good at handling heavier sleepers and isolating motion and minimizing sinkage as well between couples sharing a bed.
The Sleep 400 mattress provides the classic memory foam feel of body hug and contour without feeling trapped in the foam like other all foam mattresses, albeit with a bit of trade-off of less responsiveness from the all foam construction.
The mattress does a good job at keeping the mattress cool when sleeping, which is very important for foam mattresses.
All in all, the REM-Fit Sleep 400 is a very solid memory foam mattress and we recommend it for both individuals as well as couples.
