Ecosa Mattress Review
Our Ecosa mattress review focuses on this innovative 10″ all-foam mattress that is very unique in that it features a 3-in-1 design that gives you the ability to choose between medium, medium-firm and firm setting simply by unzipping the cover and swapping the order of the foam layers.

The Ecosa mattress was created by the Ecosa mattress company founded in Melbourne, Australia that has been designing and manufacturing mattresses since 2015. Ecosa became available in the US in December of 2017.

Ecosa Mattress Review
The company managed to create a mattress that is an alternative to popular online “one-size-fits-all” mattresses that often fail when it comes to sleepers with different comfort needs or preferences.
This mattress allows you to choose your firmness level simply by flipping the layers and can provide you with a cool, comfortable and supportive sleeping surface necessary for a sound and quality night’s sleep.

)Construction / Materials
The Ecosa mattress is a 10″ thick all foam mattress made up of 3 layers:
- 1.5″ Top Comfort Layer – This layer is made of 1.5″ gel-infused proprietary Ecosa G-7 memory foam that serves as as the main comfort layer and keeps the mattress cool. It provides pressure relief and distributes your weight evenly across the bed while preventing you from sinking too deep into the mattress and feel enveloped by foam. The special gel used in this layer helps in temperature regulation and dissipates heat away from your body.
- 1.5 ” Response layer – This layer is made of 1.5″ open cell Eco-Tex foam that is designed to provide contour as well as bounce and responsiveness with its latex-like construction. It is a durable, anti-allergenic, supportive, and bouncy layer capable of providing support to those parts of your body where it is needed most and keeping you cool throughout the night through the use of the special pin-core holes that allow greater circulation of air.
- 7″ Bottom foundation layer – This layer is made of 7″ HD support foam that provides deep compression support and extra breathability to the mattress. It also minimizes motion transfer, gives the Ecosa mattress its shape and makes it extremely durable.
The cover of the Ecosa mattress is made of three separate specialized materials. The outer cover is made from a high-quality double-knit polyester. It is thin, light and breathable, but also stretchy and durable, and it can be removed by using a zipper and washed if necessary.
The inner cover is made of soft and breathable water-resistant German fabric that keeps the moisture and dust mites away from the foam layers beneath.

Ecosa waterproof cover
The third layer of the Ecosa mattress has an additional fire resistant, self-extinguishing fabric over the inner cover woven from silica without added chemical retardants that melts when it catches fire, muffling the bed and keeping it away from oxygen to suffocate the flames.
Firmness & Support
As it has been already mentioned, the Ecosa is an adjustable 3-in-1 mattress that allows you to adjust the firmness to your liking by flipping the mattress layers. So the mattress comes with medium, medium-firm, and firm setting in one package.
The medium firmness can be achieved by flipping the first two layers and putting the memory foam layer on top, and it falls around a 5 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest).
In this way, the latex-like Eco-Tex response layer will serve as the transition layer and the sleeping surface will be soft, but still bouncy. There will be more contouring and sinkage than with the Eco-Tex layer which makes this firmness setting ideal for side sleepers looking for supportive but comfortable sleeping surface that will cradle their hips and shoulders and relieve pressure points.
To adjust the mattress to medium-firm firmness, you just have to put the Eco-Tex layer on top. In such case the firmness level of a mattress will be around a 6.5 out of 10.
This is a standard combination, with the latex-like Eco-Tex layer on top and the one preferred by most sleepers. It offers a good degree of flexibility and excellent support for all sleeping positions, especially back sleeping.
The firm level can be achieved by putting the thick support foam layer on top and it will be around a 7.5 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest). You should just make sure to place the support side at the bottom. When adjusted like this, the Ecosa mattress is best suited for stomach sleepers and those who prefer mattresses with a firmer feel.
Support was consistently good with the Ecosa as it allows so many options depending on sleeper preference. I personally configured my side to medium while Kaye liked the medium-firm, and both of us felt very good support being side sleepers.
Besides this, the mattress does an excellent job of distributing our weight evenly during the night and supporting my heavier weight as well as Kaye’s lighter weight.
Comfort
The Ecosa is a very comfortable mattress, with the latex-like response layer, gel-infused memory foam comfort layer, and HD support foam as well as the soft and breathable yet waterproof cover providing a cool and comfortable night’s sleep in all sleeping positions.
The ability to swap the layers makes it perfect for all sleepers, from those preferring a softer feel to those wanting a firmer feel. Its proprietary foams work well with each other to keep your spine properly aligned without being too firm. It really does a superb job at cradling the spine for both lighter and heavy weight sleepers.

It worked great well for us, especially its medium firmness configuration in that it supported my heavy weight (230 lbs) with ease and distributed it evenly across the bed.
It was soft enough to cradle my hips and shoulders and relieve pressure points, as I’m primarily side sleeper and I prefer mattresses with a softer feel, but it also prevented me from sinking too deep into the mattress and feel stuck in foam.
Kaye was satisfied too, though she liked more its medium-firm configuration as she generally prefers mattresses with a firmer feel.
The soft cover provided a very nice sleeping surface that, when combined with the latex and gel-infused memory foam, did a great job at keeping us cool and comfortable throughout the whole night.
Sleeping Hot
As we have already mentioned, the Ecosa mattress did an amazing job of keeping us cool and comfortable all night.
The gel-infused memory foam layer along with the latex-like Eco-Tex foam layer does a great job at preventing the build-up of heat and keeping the mattress cool. In addition, the holes in the Eco-Tex layer and breathable soft cover allow for free circulation of air through the mattress and aid in cooling.
The cover also wicks away moisture and eliminates that sticky, sweaty feeling that most all foam mattresses tend to cause.
Sinkage & Motion Transfer
The Ecosa mattress does a pretty good job in this category too. While there was some sinkage on the softest comfort setting when sitting on the edge or upright in the bed, there was minimal sinkage with the medium-firm and firm setting.
Edge support is also solid with this mattress, and although I compressed the edges to a certain degree when the mattress was set to soft configuration, all three firmness settings supported my weight with ease and prevented me from bottoming out which often happens with the 10″ all foam mattresses.

Ecosa mattress profile
As for motion transfer, there was some motion transfer due to the use of the latex-like Eco-Tex layer, especially when the mattress was configured to the medium-firm setting where this layer was on top.
The Eco-Tex layer is bouncy material and it provided a nice degree of bounce but it was nothing too serious. Great for those wanting an ideal mattress for sex for sure! There was still some motion transfer with the medium firmness, but none with the firm setting.
The amount of motion transfer with this mattress depends on the firmness setting you choose, and depending on where you place the various layers.
Smell / Off-Gassing
The Ecosa mattress had minimal amounts of off-gassing when we unboxed it, which is above average when compared to the other mattresses we have reviewed. No issues here.

Summary
The Ecosa is unique mattress featuring several innovations in mattress industry, including the waterproof, fireproof mattress cover and the innovative 3-in-1 flippable customization of the various mattress layers.
Very few mattresses allow this type of customization and flexibility, and for this reason alone we feel this is one of the best mattresses for people unsure of the firmness level that would best work for them. It allows the sleepers to choose among three firmness settings in one mattress and adjust them easily by unzipping the cover and swapping the order of the layers.
The gel-infused memory foam as well as latex-like Eco-Tex foam, as well as the waterproof yet breatheable cover, all combine to help deliver a cool night’s sleep and support for all sleeping styles.
The ability to choose the firmness level combined with the excellent construction and materials used including the latex, gel-infused memory foam, high density support foam, special waterproof protector and fire resistant barrier makes for an excellent mattress overall and a great choice as mentioned for those that need the ability to customize a mattress to their specific needs.
