The Winkbed is a very high-quality spring/foam hybrid mattress that was designed to provide the best of these technologies in one mattress. Construction and Materials

The WinkBed mattress is a super thick 15″ hybrid innerspring and foam hybrid mattress made up of 6 layers of foam and springs encased in a luxurious very attractive and soft exterior.

  • 1″ Top Comfort Layer – This layer is 1″ of 1.5lb Hypersoft foam that provides buoyancy and comfort as well as contour for the body.
  • 1″ Top Cooling and Comfort Layer – This layer is 1″ of premium 1.5lb Gel foam for cooling comfort and breathability.
  • 2.5″ Foam Coil Layer – This layer is 2.5″ of foam encased innerspring micro air-spring coil. There are 1,358 coils in a Queen, designed to provide support and pressure relief as well as airflow and cooling.
  • Lumbar Pad Layer – Located beneath the air springs, this layer is made of pre-compressed densified cotton for lower back support.
  • Steel Coil Support Layer – 14.15 gauge steel coil with 858 coils per queen – a total of 2,211 with the above layers for a queen which provides support and weight distribution and aids in cooling.
  • 2″ Support Foam Layer – the final bottom layer of 1.5lb density support foam that acts as the foundation for the above layers and helps keep the mattress shape.

Wrapping all of this up is a SUPER luxurious cover made from Tencel, a plant-based fiber that is softer than silk, cooler than linen, and more absorbent than cotton.

Tencel is OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Class 1 certified – which means it is safe enough for babies and children.

This cover is one of the softest and nicest of any mattress we have tested to date and really sets the Winkbeds mattress apart from the competition. The white and polka dot blue color scheme combined with the tufting is very elegant and stylish.

Firmness & Support

The WinkBeds mattress comes in multiple firmness options, but we were sent the most commonly chosen model – the Luxury Firm – which we rate it at a 6.5 out of 10 (10 being the firmest). The company also offers a Soft, Firm, and “Plus” option for heavier sleepers over 300 lbs.

The WinkBeds mattress feels very supportive and handles my weight with ease, which is usually a problem with many mattresses for me.

I am significantly heavier than Kaye, and many of the 10″ mattresses on the market sink under my 230lb weight. Not the WinkBed, which at 15″ is the thickest mattress we have tested so far.

Initially, I felt the mattress was firmer than normal, but over time my body adapted to the firmness and the sensation of sleeping “on top” of the mattress compared to “down in it”.

The euro-top layer provides enough give while the springs beneath do a great job at providing overall body support.

In terms of support, the WinkBed mattress does a really good job of providing excellent support in all sleeping positions.

We primarily side sleepers, we like mattresses that provide enough give-in-the-top comfort layer to support our shoulders and hips, while also having the firmness if we switch to our stomachs and backs. The WinkBeds supports all sleeping positions very well.

Comfort

The WinkBeds mattress is very comfortable with the top layer of quilted foam and Tencel providing a supple sleeping surface, while the springs beneath do the heavy lifting (in my case!)

As this is a spring/foam hybrid, you don’t sink down in it like traditional memory foam, so you sleep more “on top” of the mattress compared to “down in” it. Depending on your preference, this may be what you like or not, but this is all personal preference.

Because it is innerspring at its core, the bounce and responsiveness is great for couples who like “a little bounce in the bedroom” 😉

Overall, the hybrid design is very comfortable and has a higher level of quality than many other hybrids we have tested.

Sleeping Hot

The WinkBed does a great job at not sleeping hot due to the materials and construction used.

The combination of the gel foam top layer with the micro air springs and inner steel coils is all combined to keep the bed cool during the night.

Compared to traditional foam or latex mattresses, this is a big difference and something the hybrid design does a great job handling.

Sinkage & Motion Transfer

This luxury hybrid mattress does an excellent job with sinkage and motion transfer, especially compared to most mattresses we have reviewed. As we always preach, sinkage (and motion transfer) is largely weight-dependent. In addition, the mattress design plays a part in this.

The fact that I weigh around 230lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on a mattress.

The WinkBed, at 15″ and made of durable support steel springs and the micro air springs, handles sinkage exceptionally well. I did not feel any of the usual sinkage I do with many mattresses with my weight.

Edge support is also very good with this mattress, and better than most mattresses we have reviewed. I slept near the edge at a time to test this and did not experience any of the “rolling off” the edges or having them become compressed under my weight.

This is largely due to the coil construction as well as a layer of edge support foam used in the mattress.

Motion transfer was a little bit more than most of the foam mattresses we have reviewed, as again – the springs provide more bounce which transfers motion. However, it wasn’t very bad and to be expected with a hybrid mattress.

Smell / Off-Gassing

The WinkBed has NO smell or off-gassing, as it doesn’t ship in a box! Instead, the company delivers white-glove to your door and thus doesn’t have the problem with odor or off-gassing.

Customer Service

As mentioned, one of the great features of the WinkBed is the white glove delivery to your door. In addition, the fact that the mattress is custom made to order also means it isn’t just sitting in a warehouse boxed up waiting to ship out. This means it takes around 7-10 days to arrive at your doorstep.

Additional customer service and warranty details include:

Price

The WinkBed hybrid mattress is priced very reasonably given the premium materials used in the construction of the mattress and white glove delivery. The WinkBed sells for $1499 for a Queen, which is a good price given the quality materials and construction used in this mattress. Plus you can click here to save $50 by entering coupon: MFT50

Summary

The WinkBed is a very unique and exceptional hybrid spring/foam mattress and one of our favorites of this type. The premium materials used in the design and construction of the mattress are something you find in over $3000 mattresses.

The hybrid design provides good comfort and support for all sleeping positions and also provides good bounce as well. The WinkBed is a great mattress for heavier sleepers due to its thick 15″ construction and multi-layer support.

There is some motion transfer, but that is to be expected due to the innerspring construction. Low sinkage and great edge support also add to the high marks.

We really like the WinkBeds overall and it is one of our favorites of the coil/foam hybrid mattresses that we have tested to date. The fact that it doesn’t ship compressed in a box and includes white glove delivery also sets it apart from the competition.

All in all, a great mattress for a great price. We hope this review of the WinkBed hybrid mattress helps you out in your next purchase decision. If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know!
