Construction and Materials
The Zonkd is a 12″ thick mattress made up of 3 layers of copper-infused memory foam, Talalay latex and high-density poly foam.
- 2″ Top Comfort Layer – This layer is made of 2″ of soft and comfortable copper-infused memory foam that responds slowly to pressure and is designed to provide deep body contouring, disperse heat and keep things cool throughout the whole night.
- 2″ Transition Layer – This layer is 2″ of aerated Talalay latex that provides response and bounce to the mattress and aids in transitioning motion between the upper and lower layers. It provides the sleeper with a nice lift, prevents the excessive sinkage, encourages greater airflow through the mattress and aids in cooling.
- 8″ Support Layer – This layer is made of 8″ of high-density poly foam that serves as the foundation, gives the bed its shape and provides support as well as deep compression support for the body.
The cover of this mattress is made of soft and breathable double-knit polyester blend that has antimicrobial properties and is cool to the touch.
Firmness & Support
The Zonkd mattress comes in three different firmness options: Soft, Medium and Firm. Each model a latex layer of different density which determines its firmness.
If you are unsure of the firmness level that would best work for you, a short quiz on the company’s website will help you realize which feel would be right for you based on your sleep preferences, your weight and problems with your sleep. But if you still can’t decide which firmness level would be ideal for you, then you should go with the Medium.
The company recommends the Medium firm mattress regardless of your firmness preference. If you toss and turn during the night trying to find a comfortable position, if you prefer back or side sleeping, then the Medium might be a perfect choice for you.
The Zonkd mattress has a response layer made of Talalay latex of a perfect density that is balanced between soft cushiony comfort and firm support and that provides bounce to the mattress and allows moving around in bed easier during the night.
The one we reviewed is this Medium firm Zonkd, and we would say it is around a 7 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest).
As the first layer of the Zonkd is made of copper-infused memory foam, it is not only excellent in dispersing heat and regulating temperature, but it is also soft enough to contour to the curves of your body. It will cushion and hug pressure points on your hips, shoulders, knees, neck, legs and lower back and give you a proper sink-in feel.
In terms of support, we feel this model does a really good job of providing excellent support in all sleeping positions, especially back and side sleeping.
As we are primarily side sleepers, we like mattresses that provide enough give in the top comfort layer to cradle and support our shoulders and hips, while also having the firmness necessary to keep our spine properly aligned if we switch to our stomachs and backs.
This latex hybrid mattress felt really good on my hips and shoulders and did not cause any numbness or discomfort which I often experience with lower quality mattresses.
Although I usually compress the top comfort layers of most mattresses rather quickly, my heavy weight at 230 lbs was properly supported by the high-quality Talalay latex layer. It provided me with a nice lift and worked well with the high-density base layer to prevent excessive sinkage and distribute my weight evenly across the bed.
The Zonkd mattress is really comfortable. It provided us with the right balance of comfort and support we needed for a sound night’s sleep.
The soft top comfort layer is made of copper-infused memory foam, which gently molded to our bodies and cradled our hips and shoulders without making us feel stuck or trapped in the foam.
This layer combined with the responsive Talalay latex, provided us with the classic memory foam feeling of body hug and contour and we didn’t feel enveloped by the mattress.
The latex does a good job at supporting our bodies and providing good responsiveness when changing positions during the night. It provided us with nice lift and the feeling of sleeping “on a top the mattress” rather than inside it.
This mattress also has enough bounce to it which makes it ideal for sex, but it doesn’t cause excessive motion transfer due to the use of the soft copper-infused memory foam in the top comfort layer which also works to keep you cool and comfortable all night.
The Zonkd does a good job at providing a cool sleeping surface via the use of the copper-infused memory foam, aerated Talalay latex and breathable cover.
The copper element gives the memory foam in the top comfort layer a temperature regulating feature, thanks to its conduction nature. It prevents the build up of heat during the night and keeps the mattress cool.
The aerated latex allows greater circulation of air through the mattress and aids in cooling while the soft polyester cover improves breathability, wicks away moisture and eliminates that sticky, sweaty feeling that many all foam mattresses tend to cause.
All in all,the Zonkd mattress does a very good job at minimizing heat during the night.
Sinkage & Motion Transfer
The Zonkd does a good job with sinkage and motion transfer too, especially when compared to other all foam mattresses we have reviewed.
As we always preach, sinkage and motion transfer are largely weight dependent. The fact that I weigh around 230lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on mattresses. Kaye, who is half my weight, experiences much less sinkage than I do, but again this is to be expected due to her much lighter weight.
With the Zonkd mattress there wasn’t excessive sinkage. I compressed the top comfort memory foam layer to a degree, but the latex and high-density poly foam layers below provided me with a nice lift and did a good job at supporting my weight and distributing it evenly across the bed.
The 12-inch construction of this mattress combined with these layers prevented me from sinking too deep into the mattress and bottom out like it is often the case with many other all foam mattresses.
We noticed immediately that any movement by me during the night wasn’t felt by Kaye much at all. Although there is a good amount of bounce and responsiveness coming from the latex layer, this is very nicely balanced with the top comfort layer made of soft memory foam which reduces motion transfer.
Edge support is solid with this mattress. I compressed the edges a little but did not bottom out and come to rest on the foundation of our bed. I also slept near the edge at times and did not experience any of the “rolling off” the edges.
Smell / Off-Gassing
The Zonkd gets high marks in this category for not having any noticeable smell upon opening the box. This is to be expected given that it is not an all foam construction mattress, which tend to result in more smell than hybrid latex mattresses.
What little smells that are present are non-toxic as Zonkd doesn’t use harmful chemicals in the construction of their mattresses. Keep the mattress in a properly ventilated room and the smell will quickly dissipate.
Zonkd provides pretty standard customer service offerings that you can expect from a “Bed In A Box” online retailer. This includes:
- 110 Night Sleep Trial Period
- 10 Year Warranty
- Free Shipping
- Made in America

This model is reasonably priced at $999 for a Queen, which is a good price given the quality materials used in the construction of this mattress and all the benefits that it offers.
The Zonkd is a very nice 12″ thick mattress, made of three different foam and latex layers. The combination of different layers of foam and latex ensures a comfortable, cool and supportive sleeping surface necessary for a sound and relaxing sleep. The use of high quality Talalay latex along with copper-infused foam is something that sets the mattress apart from its competitors.
The mattress is available in three firmness options: Soft, Medium and Firm, and you just have to pick the one that would best work for you.
For the purposes of this review, we have tested the Medium firm Zonkd, and if you like a blended foam feel or tend to move around in bed a lot, this model may be the right choice for you.
Its unique design provides a very comfortable yet supportive solution that is ideal for all sleeping positions, especially side and back sleeping. It offers that classic memory foam feel of body hug and contour along with the bounce and responsiveness of latex, which results in not making you feel trapped in foam like other mattresses.
This degree of bounce and responsiveness that comes with this mattress from the latex layer facilitates changing positions and getting in and out of bed during the night and makes it ideal for sex.
The mattress will also keep you cool and dry via its special copper-infused memory foam layer that works together with the aerated latex layer and breathable cover to ensure greater airflow through the mattress, prevent the build up of heat and create a cool and pleasant sleeping surface.
We hope that our review of the Zonkd mattress helps you out in your next mattress purchase, and if you have any questions, feel free to let us know!
