Is the WinkBeds GravityLux Mattress Right for You?

Buy the WinkBeds GravityLux mattress if you like:

  • Memory foam feel – Although this mattress is made from a foam that is unlike classic memory foam, it still offers that classic memory foam feel of hug and contour without making you feel stuck.
  • Sleeping on your side – The WinkBeds GravityLux is ideal for those who prefer sleeping on their side as it will allow their bodies to sink into it to a certain degree and cradle their shoulders and hips for perfect pressure relief.
  • Mattresses with excellent support – With its zoned construction, the GravityLux provides extraordinary support to those areas of your body where it is needed most which makes it perfect for all sleeping styles and all types of sleepers.
  • Mattresses that sleep cool – This mattress sleeps quite cool due to the use of the special AirCell foam, which is far more breathable than other foams and a breathable Tencel cover with gel-infused foam.

You might not like the WinkBeds GravityLux mattress if:

  • You like buoyant mattresses – Unfortunately, this mattress is an all-foam mattress and it does not offer too much bounce. If you prefer buoyant mattresses, then this one may not be the best choice for you.
  • You like the feel of sleeping on top of your mattress – The GravityLux features soft foams on the top which will allow you to sink into them to a certain degree to cradle your body and relieve pressure points. If you prefer the feel of sleeping on top of your mattress rather than inside it, this mattress may not work for you.

Construction and Materials

The WinkBeds GravityLux mattress is a 12″ all-foam mattress made up of 4 layers of various foams:

  • 2″ Gel-Infused Foam Layer – This layer is a 2″ gel-infused foam layer, made of premium cooling foam designed to cradle your body, provide pressure relief, enable greater airflow through the mattress, and wick away excess body heat and moisture.
  • 3″ Patented AirCell Memory Foam Layer – This layer is made of 3″ of a Patented AirCell memory foam designed to provide support and relieve pressure points with its patented shock-absorbing air capsules. It also eliminates motion transfer and prevents the build-up of heat.
  • 3″ Zoned Progression Foam Layer – This layer is a 3″ Zoned Progression foam layer designed to provide targeted support with varying firmness levels to 5 different body zones: firmer support in the hip and lumbar region and softer support in the shoulder, and leg region.
  • 4″ ATLAS Core Foam Layer – This layer is made of 4″ of a 1.8lb density ATLAS Core foam designed to provide pushback support and prevent sagging. It serves as the foundation for the layers above and provides greater durability and stability to the mattress.

Firmness & Support

The WinkBeds GravityLux mattress is offered in three firmness options: Soft, Medium, and Firm and the one we tested is a Medium-firm model, designed to appeal to a wide range of sleepers with different needs and sleep preferences.

We rate it at about a 6 out of 10 (10 being firmest). The company has their own firmness scale where they rate this mattress a bit softer in a range you can see from the graphic given below, which can also be found on their site.

Both Kaye and I felt this bed was of perfect firmness and quite comfortable due to the use of the zoned technology designed to provide the right amount of comfort and support to those regions of the body where it is needed most.

With many mattresses, since I’m a heavier sleeper (230 lbs), I tend to bottom out or press through the top comfort layers and feel more of the support layers beneath which are often harder and not as comfortable, but this wasn’t the case with the WinkBeds MemoryLux mattress at all.

It is true that I compressed the softer top comfort layers to a certain degree, but a zoned support layer and a firmer base below stopped me from sinking too much into the mattress and feeling enveloped by it and provided me with a good degree of lift and support.

This mattress is both firm and soft in the areas where you need those qualities most. It is the firmest in the lumbar region which is the heaviest and needs the most support, while the top and bottom regions of the bed are softer.

The WinkBeds GravityLux is designed to suit the needs of all types of sleepers and it worked perfectly for us as well. We are primarily side sleepers and we like mattresses that have a lot of give in the top comfort layers to cradle our shoulders and hips and prevent the appearance of pressure points while also having enough firmness if we switch to our stomach and back.

The GravityLux mattress has it all and it worked perfectly for us as side sleepers.

We felt it did a great job of providing support in all sleeping positions for both Kaye and myself sleeping as a couple. Softer foam layers cradled and molded to our shoulders and hips and prevented the appearance of pressure points and any discomfort and pain in our backs or necks, while it also had enough firmness in the middle region to support our lumbar area.

Comfort

The WinkBeds GravityLux mattress is quite comfortable, due to its special AirCell foam which contains billions of microscopic shock-absorbing cushions designed to provide superior comfort and reduce pressure points, and the zoned foam layer capable of accommodating different body weights and curves and keeping your spine properly aligned.

The mattress has enough softness in the top comfort layers to gently cradle your shoulders and hips and eliminate any possibility of the appearance of pressure points while having enough firmness necessary to keep your spine properly aligned in all sleeping positions and prevent back and neck pain and other body aches.

The mattress offers just the right balance of pressure-relieving comfort and support. It will work perfectly for side sleepers, but back and stomach sleepers will also find the GravityLux quite comfortable and supportive, as it is firm enough to provide support and comfort for these sleeping styles without being too soft and causing excessive sinkage.

The mattress doesn’t have too much bounce, but it won’t make you feel stuck in the foam. The combination of special foams used in the construction of this mattress will allow you to easily change positions during the night and get in and out of bed without causing too much motion transfer.

All in all, this bed is both very supportive and very comfortable, and the premium materials all lend themselves to accomplishing this.

Sleeping Hot

The WinkBeds GravityLux mattress does an excellent job of sleeping cool due to the use of the special AirCell foam which is far more breathable than memory foam and which allows greater airflow through the mattress and prevents the build-up of excessive body heat.

In addition, the cover of this mattress is Eucalyptus-based and tufted with 2″ gel memory foam. They work together to provide breathability regulate body temperature and wick away moisture.

As a couple living in Texas where temperatures know to be really high, especially during summer, this is a big deal for us. The mattress managed to prevent the build-up of heat and did not cause excessive sweating during the night.

We did not experience that sticky feeling that we often do with all foam mattresses which was something we really were thankful for.

Sinkage & Motion Transfer

The WinkBeds GravityLux mattress does a good job of minimizing excessive sinkage, especially when compared to most other all-foam mattresses we have reviewed.

As we always tend to mention, sinkage is largely weight dependent, and as I weigh around 230lbs I often experience more sinkage when sitting and lying on a mattress than Kaye who is half my weight. She experiences much less sinkage than I do, but this is to be expected due to her much lighter weight.

The softer top comfort layers of this mattress will allow you to sink into them to a certain degree. They will mold to your body and cradle your shoulders and hips to relieve pressure points while the zoned support layer and the firm base layer below will stop you from sinking too much into the mattress and feel enveloped by it.

The mattress supported my heavy weight and our combined weights as a couple well and distributed them evenly across the bed. It is true that I compressed the top comfort layers quite a bit when sitting upright in bed or near the edges, but I didn’t have them totally compressed under my weight.

The zoned support layer and high-density base layer did a great job of lifting my heavy body weight and preventing me from sinking too much into the mattress. The mattress also didn’t cause Kaye to experience that well-known feel of “sinking into a hole”.

In terms of edge support, this mattress varies based on the area where you are sitting as the mattress has different firmness levels for different body regions.

So, you may sink more at the top or the bottom of the mattress where foam is softer than in the middle region where the foam is firmer to support your lumbar area. However, regardless of where you choose to sit, you won’t compress the edges too much and come to rest on the foundation of your bed.

As for motion transfer, there is almost no motion transfer with the MemoryLux mattress due to its all foam construction which makes this mattress an ideal choice for couples.

Smell / Off-Gassing

The WinkBeds GravityLux mattress gets high marks in this category for not having too much of a noticeable smell upon opening the box.

There was some amount of off-gassing given its all foam construction and the fact that it comes tightly compressed in a plastic package, but it was nothing too serious and dissipated within a few hours.
