Construction and Materials
The Studio by Leesa is a 10″ all foam mattress that combines premium foams for extraordinary cooling, contouring and pressure-relieving support. It is composed of the following layers:
- 1.5″ Contouring Memory Foam Layer – The top comfort layer of the Sudio by Leesa is 1.5″ of the soft and conforming memory foam designed to contour to your body and provide pressure point relief and cooling.
- 1.5″ Transitional Layer – This layer is made up of 1.5″ of pressure relieving foam designed to serve as a transition layer between the soft top comfort layer and the firmer core support layer below, provide support, pressure relief and promote proper spinal alignment.
- 7″ Core Support Foam Base Layer – This layer is 7″ of dense support foam that increases the durability and stability of the mattress and serves as the foundation for the layers above. It works with them to provide excellent support for all types of sleepers and all sleeping positions.
The Studio by Leesa features the company’s signature cover with a twist: heather-blue with blue stripes. Besides the cover is really beautiful, it is also extremely soft to the touch and highly-breathable.
It works to provide a cool sleeping surface that is pleasant to the touch and increases the overall comfort and luxuriousness of this mattress.
Firmness & Support
The Studio by Leesa is a universal comfort type memory foam mattress, designed to appeal to a wide range of sleepers. We felt it to be a medium-firm mattress and would say it’s around a 6 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest).
The company has their own firmness scale and they rate this mattress in a range you can see below.
With many mattresses, since I am a heavier sleeper, I tend to press through the top comfort layers and feel more of the support layers which are often harder and not as comfortable.
However, this wasn’t the case with the Studio by Leesa mattress. It is true that I compressed the soft top comfort layer quite a bit, but the slightly firmer transition layer below and the firm core support base layer prevented me from sinking all the way down through the mattress and bottom out which often tends to happen with the low quality 10 inch all foam mattresses
The mattress also allowed me to easily move around in bed and change positions during the night and it didn’t make me feel trapped in foam or cause Kaye to roll into me due to our weight disparity and her well-known feel of “sinking into a hole”.
In terms of support, the Studio by Leesa provides excellent support in all sleeping positions and for all types of sleepers.
It has just enough give in the top comfort layer to cushion our hips and shoulders and prevent the appearance of pressure points while it also offers a great amount of support necessary to keep our spines properly aligned if we switch to our stomachs or backs.
We are primarily side sleepers and we felt this mattress worked perfectly for us. It lifted my heavy body weight and our combined weights sleeping as a couple with ease and provided us with just the right amount of support needed to keep our spines naturally aligned.
It also had enough give in the top comfort layer to cradle our hips and shoulders and eliminate stiffness or any other kind of pain or discomfort. You might also like our Wright Mattress Review.
Comfort
The Studio by Leesa is quite comfortable. It offers incredible pressure relief to prevent the appearance of pressure points and dead arm sensation while it’s at the same time supportive enough to keep your spine properly aligned regardless of your the position you sleep in.
The exterior of the Studio by Leesa is very soft and comfortable, with the luxurious soft cover and the top comfort layer doing a good job of providing a comfortable sleeping surface.
The softness of the cover combined with the initial soft response from the upper foam layer made for a comfortable night’s sleep and this was shared by both of us.
The soft memory foam on top will allow your body to sink into it for perfect pressure relief, but it won’t make you feel stuck in foam. It will allow you to easily change positions and get in and out of bed during the night.
Besides this, the Studio by Leesa mattress is also designed to be highly breathable in order to promote better temperature regulation and help you stay cool while you sleep.
Sleeping Hot
Like mentioned, the Studio by Leesa does a good job at sleeping cool due to the highly breathable foams used in its construction and the soft and breathable cover which allows greater airflow through the mattress and aids in cooling.
The combination of materials used in this mattress prevents the build-up of excessive body heat, eliminates any discomfort and the feeling of stickiness usually present with many all foam mattresses and provides you with a cool and comfortable night’s sleep.
Sinkage and Motion Transfer
In terms of sinkage and motion transfer, again with many of these mattresses it is highly dependent on sleeper’s weight. As I weigh considerably more than Kaye, around 230 lbs, I tend to sink a lot more into the mattress when sitting up or on the edge.
However, this was not the case with the Studio by Leesa mattress. It does an excellent job of minimizing the amount of sinkage and it did not cause me to bottom out and feel enveloped by a mattress as it is often the case with the lower quality 10″ all foam mattresses.
It is true that I compressed the soft top comfort layer of memory foam quite a bit, but the slightly firmer transition layer below nicely transitioned my heavy body weight into the firm core support base layer and prevented me from sinking too much into the mattress and feeling trapped in foam.
The combination of foams used in the construction of this mattress did a great job of supporting my heavy weight and our combined weights sleeping as a couple. It lifted us with ease and distributed our weight evenly across the bed.
Edge support is also good with this mattress. I didn’t press all the way down through the mattress and come to rest on the foundation of our bed when sitting on or near its edge, and it worked perfectly well for Kaye as well. We also didn’t experience any feeling of sliding and rolling off the bed.
As for motion transfer, there is almost no motion transfer with this mattress due to its all foam construction which isolates movements between partners to the least bit.
Smell / Off-Gassing
There was a small degree of off-gassing / smell coming from the Studio by Leesa mattress, but it was but nothing overpowering when compared to some other all foam mattresses we have reviewed. Therefore, we give this mattress above-average marks in this category.
Customer Service
Leesa is pretty standard when it comes to their customer service offerings. Most mattresses in this category share about the same offerings in terms of sleep trials and warranty, and Leesa is no exception here.
