Construction and Materials
The Saatva Solaire mattress is a 13″ thick mattress made of 6 layers. While the Twin XL and Full sizes feature a single chamber and come with one remote control, other sizes, including the one we received are built with two air chambers and come with two remote controls.
The one we reviewed is a King model with the Upper Flex option, and it consists of the following layers:
- Organic Cotton Pillow Top – This layer is made of a plush and luxurious cushioning materials inserted underneath the outer covering for a neater look. This pillow top is very breathable and more convenient than regular pillow tops as it is quilted tightly into the mattress itself which prevents shifting and provides consistent comfort and extraordinary pressure relief.
- 5-zone Talalay Latex Layer – This layer is made of naturally hypoallergenic Talalay latex that is buoyant and responsive. It features a somewhat denser latex in the center third of the mattress to provide a better back support and maximum pressure relief.
- Gel-Infused Memory Foam Layer – This layer is made of gel-infused memory foam designed to contour to your body, keep your spine properly aligned and keep you cool and comfortable all night long.
- Moisture Barrier – This barrier is somewhat thinner and it protects all internal components and prevents bacteria growth to ensure a healthier sleep and prolong the lifespan of the mattress.
- Vulcanized Air Chambers – Multi-directional box baffle design will evenly support your body regardless of the firmness level you choose and provide you with a consistent comfort every night.
- Power Edge Enclosure – This system reinforces support around perimeter, makes the mattress more durable and provides more sleep surface. In-rail air inflator will operate quietly and invisibly and you won’t have to worry about hiding pumps or hoses.
Saatva Solaire mattress layers
The cover of the Saatva Solaire mattress is made from soft and breathable 100% organic cotton. It is quilted with foam and connected directly to the mattress to create the pillow top.
Besides this, the cotton in this cover is treated with the company’s special Guardin botanical antimicrobial fabric treatment which inhibits bacteria to prolong the life of the organic cotton fabric and is finished with a beautiful organic gold damask trim.

Saatva Solaire mattress cover
As with the previous Saatva mattress, we were quite impressed with the luxuriousness and the quality of this cover, as it is vastly different from ordinary covers seen in most mattresses.
Firmness & Support
The Solaire mattress is fully adjustable in terms of firmness. This means that with just a touch of a button you can add the air to the air chambers and adjust the firmness level of your mattress to your liking. It can go from soft to firm and back again whenever you want.
At its softest, the Solaire felt to me like being around a 3 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest). At its firmest, it felt around an 8.
Each side of the Upper Flex Solaire mattress that we have used has a separate core with reinforced chambers which can be quietly inflated or deflated simply by pressing a button on a remote.
We used it on the Saatva Lineal adjustable base which allowed us to adjust the head of each bed and their firmnesses independently, but the feet could be only adjusted together as the bed is not split all the way down. (Read our Saatva Lineal Base review.)

Saatva Solaire adjustable remotes
With 50 firmness options available at the touch of a button, we could easily find a perfect firmness level for our needs without disturbing each other’s sleep. So, if you share your bed with a partner, you won’t have to compromise on firmness levels as there are firmness level settings on each side of the mattress which can suit your individual sleep needs and preferences.
In addition, you can choose to have either latex layer on top or the gel-infused memory foam simply by unzipping the pillow top of this mattress and turning the layers which adds to the customizability of this luxurious mattress.

Saatva Solaire mattress, adjustable layers
With this level of customizability, the Saatva Solaire mattress was of the perfect firmness for both of us. Its nice 13″ thickness and specific construction did a great job of supporting both my heavier 230 lbs weight and combined weight with Kaye.
Kaye generally prefers firmer mattresses than me so she added more air to her side of the bed while I like mattresses that cushion and mold to my hips and shoulders to prevent the appearance of pressure points so I added less air than Kaye.
Like I mentioned, the Solaire did a great job of providing both of us with just the right amount of support where it was needed most and it felt amazing in all sleeping positions.
Since Kaye and myself are primarily side sleepers, we like mattresses that provide enough give in the top comfort layers to support our shoulders and hips, while also having the firmness if we switch to our stomachs and backs, and the Solaire, with its pillow top, latex and gel-infused memory foam and special air system, did an excellent job here.

Saatva Solaire mattress adjustment
When lying down on it, you will feel the initial soft feel of the pillow top before experiencing the cradling feel of the memory foam or latex comfort layer, while the underlying air and foam layers will provide excellent support for the body and prevent you from sinking too much into the mattress and feeling trapped in it.
The mattress provides a nice cradling and hugging feel, but it also responds pretty quickly to the pressure and there is a good degree of bounce which makes moving around and getting in and out of the bed easy.
Comfort
The Saatva Solaire mattress is extremely comfortable with all the adjustability and customization that it allows. You will feel how comfortable it is as soon as you lay down on the quilted cotton cover and luxury pillow top and the underlying layers begin to sense your pressure and react accordingly.
Gel-infused memory foam and latex layer combined with the air chambers provide a perfect amount of body hug and contour and enough support to keep your spine properly aligned and allow a comfortable and painless night’s sleep.
The soft pillow top and comfort layers will cradle your shoulders and hips and provide you with great pressure relief, while the adjustable air chambers that you can inflate and deflate separately and adjust the firmness to your liking will prevent you from sinking too much into the mattress and feeling enveloped by it.

Saatva Solaire mattress, corner view
The soft and luxurious pillow top works perfectly with the underlying memory foam and latex layers to provide a comfortable and pressure relieving sleeping surface while there is also a nice degree of bounce and responsiveness coming from its air layer and latex layer that is known for its buoyant, bouncy feel.
When the mattress is inflated a bit more, it provides excellent push-back and bounce, which does not only facilitate moving around in bed and getting in and out of it during the night, but which also makes it great for sex.
Sleeping Hot
Sleeping hot is often a factor with many mattresses, especially memory foam mattresses or mattresses featuring memory foam in its layers, but this was not the case with the Saatva Solaire. Right from the start of our review of this mattress we felt it was cool and did not cause us to wake up sweaty or hot.
There are a few things that make this Saatva mattress, just like the previous one we have reviewed, sleep cooler than other standard memory foam beds. First of all, the cover that wraps the mattress is made of extremely soft and breathable cotton that wicks away moisture and heat.
In addition, the special gel-infused memory foam is designed to prevent the build up of heat and combined with the latex layer, which is known for its natural cooling properties, it did a pretty good job of keeping us cool and comfortable all night long.
We also didn’t experience that sticky and sweaty feel typical for most other beds using memory foam in its structure.
Sinkage and Motion Transfer
The Saatva Solaire mattress does a good job of preventing excessive sinkage, especially when compared to most mattresses we have reviewed.
As we always preach, sinkage and motion transfer are largely weight dependent. The fact that I weigh around 230lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on most mattresses. My heavy weight causes them to compress down quite a bit when sitting on the edge or upright in bed.
Kaye, who is half my weight, experiences much less sinkage than I do, but again this is to be expected due to her much lighter weight and the fact that she doesn’t compress the mattress down as much as I do.
With the separate air chambers that allow you to inflate or deflate them to your liking, we could regulate sinkage and adjust the firmness level according to our individual needs.

Saatva Soilaire mattress profile
My side of the Solaire mattress, inflated according to my needs, did a great job with minimizing the amount of sinkage I experienced both when sitting upright or laying. I didn’t sink too much into the mattress and feel enveloped by and I didn’t feel any other kind of discomfort that other mattresses with excessive sinkage and poor support usually cause.
The air system worked perfectly with other layers to lift my body weight with ease and distribute it evenly across the bed.
Kaye’s side did the same for her and the separate sides also prevented her from experiencing the common feel of sinking into a hole or rolling towards me due to the difference in our weights.
The edge support is excellent with this mattress due to its Power Edge enclosure which reinforces the support around perimeter, provides more sleep surface and allows you to sit on he edges without compressing them too much and sleep near them without experiencing any “roll-off-the-edge” feel.
I adjusted the firmness level of my side and sat on the edge and slept near it and didn’t compress it too much under my weight and I also did not feel like I was going to roll off the bed. Kaye’s side did the same for her.

Saatva Soilaire mattress, individual adjustment
As for motion transfer, there is no motion transfer at all with this mattress. The split design of the Solaire where each partner has their own adjustable air chamber, there is no risk of sleep disturbance. Such design worked perfectly with the memory foam layer and prevented motion transfer across the mattress.
Smell / Off-Gassing
Off-gassing is non-existent with the Saatva mattresses. It is a by-product of the chemicals used in the foam that create a sour odor when compressed, put in a bag and a box for shipping purposes and then opened at home.
The Saatva Solaire, just like the previous Saatva mattress we have reviewed, doesn’t have any noticeable smell.
In addition, your mattress will be delivered directly to your doorstep and installed by professionals in your home. They are one of the rare only online mattress companies that do this, and they are committed to a smaller carbon footprint and are members of the Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC). Needless to say, no smelly chemical odor was present with our bed when we received it.
Customer Service
Customer service is something that Saatva prides itself on which is evident during the ordering process.
As the mattresses are made to order and delivered directly to you by truck and professionally installed, you have to first put in your zip code on the site to determine if they offer delivery to your area. As they have so many distribution facilities setup by now, this usually isn’t an issue.
Once you select the size of the bed and place your order, within 24 hours you’ll receive a call confirming it and letting you know the expected delivery date.
The company representatives are extremely friendly and will walk you through the entire process, which for us was around 10 days. The delivery is arranged via a local delivery company who calls you the day before delivery is scheduled and then on the same day within an hour of delivery.
The guys that delivered our bed took away our older mattress, brought in the Solaire mattress and installed it in our room quickly and professionally.
Every person involved was extremely friendly and helpful, and the entire ordering process went super smoothly. High marks in this category.

Summary
All in all the Saatva Solaire is another extraordinary new mattress that uses some great technology and materials and we heartily recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fully adjustable premium mattress.
It is unique in that it gives you a possibility to change the firmness of your bed with a remote without having to switch out layers and comes with 50 firmness settings, so you will certainly be able to adjust it to your liking.
Special air chambers used in the construction of this mattress that can be inflated or deflated with a remote give you the ability to adjust the firmness whenever you like without having to change out the layers or add a mattress topper.
You can also get the Solaire Upper-Flex like we did which will allow you to adjust the firmness of each side of the mattress independently so both you and your partner can have different firmness according to your specific needs and sleep preferences. The great thing with this mattress is that it can also be used on an adjustable base.
This makes the Solaire Upper Flex mattress a great option for couples, especially those with different firmness preferences. Besides it is capable of suiting individual firmness preferences, the split construction of this mattress also prevents motion transfer and minimizes the risk of waking up your partner with frequent changing of positions or getting in and out of bed during the night.
It is also suitable for those with specific health issues and other conditions that require frequent changing of the firmness level of their mattress.
The Solaire sleeps quite cool as well due to the use of gel-infused memory foam and latex layer and highly breathable cotton cover which all work together to prevent heat retention and keep you cool and comfortable all night long.
We absolutely love this Saatva mattress and we have no doubts that you will be totally satisfied with it too. It is true that the Solaire models are a bit more expensive than other mattresses we have reviewed but compared to similar adjustable beds on the market they are totally worth the price and are definitely options worth considering.
