Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid Review
Our review of the Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress, one of the more popular hybrid coil / foam mattresses on the market today. Nest Bedding is known for their highly rated Alexander Signature Series memory foam mattresses and this is their hybrid version.
Nest Bedding is not your typical online mattress company. The company has several retail stores serving the Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York markets and has expanded into online sales as well.
Nest is known for having great customer service, quality American made products, and very good prices for their products.
Not only does the company produce mattresses, but they also offer a full line of organic and natural bedding such as organic sheet sets, organic blankets, organic pillows, and organic duvet covers.
Construction and Materials
The Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress is a 13″ hybrid pocketed coil and foam mattress made up of 4 layers.
- 2″ Top Comfort Layer – This layer is 2″ of 1.5 density quilted foam designed to improve airflow and and relieve pressure points
- 2″ Cooling and Comfort Layer – This layer is 3.5 density copper infused memory foam designed to provide cooling and comfort.
- 2″ Support Layer – This layer is 2″ of SmartFlow transitional foam that works to provide cooling and additional support.
- 7″ Foundation Layer – This layer is 7″ of 5 zone edge support pocketed innerspring coils that acts as the foundation and provides deep compression support.
The cover of the Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress is made up of a blend of 80% rayon and 20% polyester. The cover has a nice pattern on it that feels good and also has foam quilted within it which aids in comfort and airflow.
Firmness & Support
The Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress only comes in one firmness option, Medium, which we rate it at a 5-6 out of 10 (10 being the firmest).
The Alexander Hybrid mattress feels a lot softer to me, as I am significantly heavier than Kaye, and I tend to press through the top comfort layers and feel more of the support layers in most mattresses.
This doesn’t happen with the nice 13″ thickness in the Alexander Hybrid which helps support both my heavier 230lb weight and combined weight with Kaye.
In terms of support, for me the Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Hybrid mattress does a really good job of providing excellent support in all sleeping positions.
As we are primarily side sleepers, we like mattresses that provide enough give in the top comfort layer to support our shoulders and hips, while also having the firmness if we switch to our stomach or back.
The Alexander Hybrid mattress really provides the degree of support a heavier sleeper like myself needs from the pocketed coil foundation layer combined with the top comfort layers.
The Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid mattress very comfortable, with the expected bounce coming from the coils combined with the foam mattress top layer providing good body contour and hug.
After sleeping on the Alexander Hybrid for a while, we found that our bodies adapted to the mattress and molded to the memory foam without feeling stuck or trapped in the foam. The coils helped provide the bounce needed to switch positions during the night and supported my heavy bodyweight with ease.
The Alexander Hybrid is also great for late night amorous couple’s activity as well, with the bed providing good push-back and bounce needed for sex 😉
The Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid is both very supportive as well as being a very comfortable mattress, and the premium materials all lend themselves to accomplishing this.
The Alexander Hybrid does a good job of not sleeping hot due to the SmartFlow foam layers as well as the copper-infused layer and of course the innerspring coils.
While not a big proponent of whether copper-infused foams actually work, the combination of this material with the coil and foam construction used in the Alexander Hybrid did a great job of ensuring the mattress was cooler than most mattresses we have reviewed.
Sinkage & Motion Transfer
The Nest Alexander Hybrid does an good job with sinkage, especially compared to most mattresses we have reviewed. As we always preach, sinkage (and motion transfer) is largely weight dependent.
The fact that I weigh around 230lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on a mattress. Kaye, who is half my weight, experiences much less sinkage than I do, but again this is to be expected due to her much lighter weight.
Edge support is very good with this mattress, and better than many mattresses we have reviewed. Nest improved their edge support in all their mattresses recently and the pocketed coil foundation helps with this as well.
I slept near the edge at time to test this and did not experience any of the “rolling off” the edges or having them compressed under my weight.
Motion transfer is more than most memory foam mattresses we have reviewed, as to be expected with a hybrid coil mattress which provides more bounce than a foam or latex mattress due to the innerspring coils in its construction.
Kaye felt a little disruption in our sleep by the shaking of the mattress when each other changed positions or got in or out of bed during the night but nothing too extreme like some competing beds.
Smell / Off-Gassing
This bed gets high marks in this category for not having a noticeable smell upon opening the box. The hybrid coil / foam construction minimized the degree of off-gassing that all foam mattresses usually have.
Being a smaller company, Nest Bedding is able to be very responsive to their customers. Joe Alexander, the owner, is very friendly and helps out with anything you may need.
Joe and the team at Nest are super friendly and helpful and this really goes a long way to a great purchase experience.
The company offers many of the same features as other online mattress retailers, such as:
- 100 night Trial period
- 20 year Warranty
- Free Shipping
- 100% money back guarantee for Returns / Refunds
- American made
- Financing Available
The Nest Bedding Alexander Hybrid is reasonably priced, coming in at $1199 for a Queen, which is a good price given the quality materials and construction used in this mattress.
|Split Cal King (both sides)||$1499|
|Split Cal King (one side)||$899|
The Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Hybrid is a great hybrid coil / foam mattress that provides the benefits of both innerspring mattresses and memory foam mattresses as well.
The Alexander Hybrid provides a good medium firmness and good support for all sleeping styles, and provides a higher degree of bounce and responsiveness from the coil hybrid design. While this makes the mattress have more motion transfer, this is to be expected for these type of designs.
The Alexander Hybrid sleeps cool and has great edge support as well, which all lend to it being a great mattress for couples as well as those that like the bounce of innerspring mattresses and the hug and contour of foam.
All in all, another great mattress from Nest Bedding and at a great price given the materials used in its construction. And if its good enough for Golden State Warriors basketball champion Stephan Curry and his wife, it should be good enough for you too!
