Luxi Review
Our review of the Luxi mattress takes a look at this innovative 10″ memory foam mattress made up of 4 layers of latex, memory foam, support balancing technology and support foam.
This mattress is very unique in that it has what the company calls “Flip-it / split-it” customization by allowing the mattress to adjust each side individually, which is the only mattress of this kind on the market.

Luxi was started by a father and daughter team, David and Shannon Farley, with 30 years in specialty sleep industry. They teamed up to create Luxi as an alternative to popular online “one-size-fits-all” mattresses that fail when it comes to sleepers with different comfort needs or preferences.

)Construction / Materials
The Luxi mattress is a 10″ thick memory foam mattress made up of 4 layers of latex, memory foam, support balancing technology and support foam.
The mattress combines many unique innovations including a patent-pending Support Balancing Technology layer that enhances the softness and support within the layers.
The greatest advantage of the Luxi is the “flip it / split it” feature that allows you to unzip the covering to re-configure the three-in-one mattress to suit each sleeper’s individual needs. In addition, custom components are available if needed to ensure sleepers are as comfortable as possible.

Luxi SBT Layer
- 1.5″ Top comfort layer – This layer is made of 1.5″ latex and designed to provide cooling and comfort as well as bounce to the mattress.
- 1″ Middle support layer – This layer is made of 1″ memory foam and provides responsive support and pressure relief as well as minimize motion transfer.
- 3.5″ Middle support layer – This layer is made of 3.5″ proprietary Support Balancing Technology layer and is used to enhance the feel of memory foam and latex layers and support the body during sleep.
- 3.5″ Bottom foundation layer – This layer is made of 3.5″ base foam and provides the foundation for the layers above.
The Luxi has a cover made of quilted with 3/4″ quilt foam which provides a soft outer layer that is durable and unzips to enable configuration of the mattress.

The Luxi Support Balancing Technology layer is very unique in that it provides cushioning comfort and the desired conforming qualities of memory foam but with a responsive elasticity that rebounds quickly when the sleeper changes position.
The SBT layer helps support heavier body parts and aids in relieving pressure points, such as where shoulders and hips rest on the mattress, similar to the support of an inner spring mattress with pocketed coils.
A layer of high density open cell memory foam, enhanced with latex, and a breathable quilted organic cotton cover keep the mattress cool. This also helps provide air flow and offers an additional softness and better wear-life than more traditionally constructed memory foam mattresses.
The GREATEST features of the Luxi, of course, is the ability to unzip the cover and adjust the firmness of the mattress on EACH SIDE of the mattress, so that one size can be firmer / softer than the other. This is the biggest issue for mattresses we have tested, as what works for one sleeper doesn’t always work for the other.

Luxi mattress inside layers
For couples, we feel this is the biggest factor and Luxi is the only mattress that enables this to be done which is HUGE for providing individual comfort and minimizing motion transfer.
Firmness & Support
The Luxi is a customized comfort mattress, and the only one of its kind. As such, it is hard to put a rating on the firmness levels, as you can adjust the mattress to whatever you like. No matter if you prefer medium firmness, or soft mattresses, this model is a good choice.
The combination of latex and memory foam and SBT layers can be flipped upside down to make the softer SBT “knobbies” on top providing a softer feel, or if really desired – the bottom support layer can be on top for maximum firmness.
In the soft configuration (SBT layer on top), we would say that the Luxi is around a 4-5 out of 10 (10 being firmest.) The company did send us an additional soft comfort layer that we installed on top of this – making it a 5 layer mattress – which made it more of a 3-4 in terms of softness.
The default shipping configuration is around a 6 out of 10 (10 being firmest), with the latex/foam layer on top.
The firmest option is putting the support layer on top which makes the mattress around an 8 out of 10 in terms of firmness.
Support was consistently good with the Luxi, as the configurable design allows so many options depending on sleeper preference. I personally configured my side to soft while Kaye liked the medium, and both of us felt very good support being side sleepers.
The Support Balancing Technology does an excellent job of distributing our weight evenly during the night and supporting my heavier weight as well as Kaye’s lighter weight.
Comfort
The Luxi mattress is a very comfortable mattress, with the latex, memory foam, and support balancing technology construction providing a comfortable night sleep in all sleeping positions as mentioned.
The ability to switch out sides makes it perfect for all sleepers, with those preferring a softer feel being able to put the SBT softer layers up to, and those wanting firmer able to make it on the other end of the spectrum.

Luxi mattress review 2020
The soft cover provides a very nice sleeping surface that also includes padding in it as well which enhances comfort during the night.
Sleeping Hot
The Luxi sleeps quite cool due to the latex top layer and quilted cover that provides for airflow. In addition, the Support Balancing Technology (SBT) layers enables airflow throughout the mattress. We did notice less cool sleep when switching to the firmest setting, however, due to the support foam being on top.
All in all, sleeping cool depends on the layer preference for the most part, so this can vary depending on firmness.
Sinkage & Motion Transfer
This is where the Luxi shines. While there was some sinkage on the softest comfort setting when sitting on the edge or upright in the bed, this is to be expected for the firmness selection.
As for motion transfer, there is ZERO amount that we encountered when sleeping on the Luxi mattress as a couple. This is an important factor for us, as excessive movement from our mattress causes sleep disruptions for both of us.
The Luxi is the BEST mattress we have reviewed for motion transfer, due to the fact that it is split down the middle and completely isolates sleeper movement.

Luxi mattress profile / label
We did not feel each other moving AT ALL with the Luxi, which is really super important for couples as a rule.
This is one of the factors that make the Luxi the best memory foam mattress for couples, and in our estimation the best mattress for couples as well.
Smell / Off-Gassing
The Luxi had minimal amounts of off-gassing when we unboxed it, which is above average compared to the other mattresses we have reviewed. No issue here.
Customer Service
Luxi provides above average customer service compared to other“Bed In A Box” online mattress retailers. The company makes every attempt to make their customers happy and minimize returns, claiming only a 2% return rate compared to the unpublished 15-30% rates that exist in the online mattress industry. This includes:
- 100 Night Sleep Trial
- 1000 Night Sleep Satisfaction Guarantee
- 10 Year Warranty

Luxi’s Sleep Experience Team of on-call experts including registered nurse sleep specialists is on staff to help owners achieve an optimal sleep experience.

Summary
The Luxi mattress is hands down the best mattress on the market these days for couples we feel due to the adjustability of the different sides allowing each sleeper to customize the mattress to their sleep preferences, and can last for a long time thanks to the quality of materials used.
No other mattress on the market allows this type of customization and flexibility, and for this reason alone we feel this is the best mattress for couples on the market today.
The ability to configure each side separately combined with the excellent construction and materials used including the very supportive Support Balancing Technology layer makes for an excellent mattress overall, and especially for couples.
The lack of motion transfer is a huge benefit of the mattress design and something we like quite a bit.
We hope our Luxi mattress review helps you out in your next purchase decision! Let us know if you have any questions we can help out with.
