Construction and Materials

The Live and Sleep Elite is a 10″ mattress made up of 3 layers of memory foam.

  • 2.5″ Top Comfort Layer – This layer is 2.5″ of responsive memory foam designed to provide body hug and pressure relief.
  • 0.5″ Transition Layer – This layer is 0.5″ of gel-infused memory foam that provides cooling and pressure relief and aids in transitioning motion between the upper and lower layers.
  • 7″ Core Support Layer – This layer is 7″ of high-density performance base foam that serves as the foundation for the layers above and provides deep compression support for the body.

Firmness & Support

The Live and Sleep Luxury mattress is a universal comfort model designed to appeal to a wide range of sleepers and it only comes in one firmness option which we felt to be around 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest).

Live and Sleep has their own firmness scale on their site and they rate this mattress in a range you see below.

Live and Sleep Elite firmness scale

As we always preach, firmness is largely weight dependent, and I tend to compress the top comfort layers of most mattresses more than Kaye does as I weigh considerably more than she does (230 lbs vs. 115).

I often feel the firmer support layers below which are often hard and not so comfortable, but this wasn’t the case with the Live and Sleep Elite mattress.

Although I compressed the top comfort layer of the Elite to a certain degree, it supported my heavier weight with ease and distributed it evenly across the bed.

It is true that it is more on a firm side, but it felt good to me and didn’t cause me to push all the way down through it and come to rest on the harder support layer below. Kaye felt the Live and Sleep Elite was of the perfect firmness, as she likes mattresses on the firmer end of the spectrum usually.

In terms of support, the Live and Sleep Elite mattress does a great job of providing good support in all sleeping positions.

As we are primarily side sleepers, we like mattresses that provide enough give in the top comfort layers to cradle our shoulders and hips and prevent the appearance of pressure points while also having enough firmness needed to keep our spines properly aligned if we switch to our backs and stomachs.

The Live and Sleep Elite mattress does a great job at providing pressure relieving comfort needed for our preferred sleeping position while it also has the firmness if we switch to our stomachs and backs.

Comfort

The Live and Sleep Elite mattress is quite comfortable. Although it initially feels rather firm and not as cushioned, due to the high density foams used in its construction, after sleeping on it for an extended amount of time, we we found that our bodies adapted to the mattress and molded to the memory foam without feeling stuck or trapped in the foam.

The top comfort layer compressed a bit under my weight, but I didn’t feel the firmer underlying support foam. It worked perfectly with the transition and base layer to support my heavy body weight with ease and our combined weights as a couple and distribute them evenly across the bed.

The Live and Sleep Elite is built entirely of memory foam and it gives that hug and body contour that memory foam is known for, without making you feel “trapped in foam” that some all foam mattress tend to do.

The top comfort memory foam layer combined with the transition layer provide that classic memory foam feel while at the same time they have some degree of responsiveness which facilitates moving around in bed and makes this mattress good for sex.

The underlying support layer does a good job at supporting our bodies and providing that deep compression support as well.

Sleeping Hot

The Live and Sleep Elite does a good job at sleeping cool due to the use of the gel-infused memory foam that dissipates excessive body heat and prevents its build-up and the breathable cover which allows the air to circulate freely through the mattress.

But, regardless of the cooling technology used in this mattress, we felt a small amount of heat at times when sleeping together on the mattress.

This is common for all foam-constructed mattresses in our experience, and it wasn’t that serious and didn’t cause us to wake up feeling hot and sweaty like many mattresses build entirely of memory foam tend to do.

Sinkage & Motion Transfer

The Live and Sleep Elite mattress does a pretty good job with sinkage and motion transfer.

As we always preach, sinkage and motion transfer are largely weight dependent, and as I weigh considerably more than Kaye, around 230 lbs, I tend to sink a lot more into the mattress when sitting upright in bed or on the edge than she does.

With many lower quality 10″ all foam mattresses I quickly sink down through the mattress and come to rest on the foundation of our bed, but this was not the case with the Elite at all.

As we mentioned, it is more on the firm side of the spectrum and features high-density foams in its construction which prevent excessive sinkage.

It is true that I compressed the top comfort layer to a certain degree, but the transition layer beneath and the firm base layer stopped me from sinking even further into the mattress and feeling enveloped by it. They lifted my heavy body weight and our combined weights as a couple with ease and distributed them evenly across the bed.

Edge support was also great with this mattress and better than in most other memory foam mattresses we have reviewed so far. I slept near the edge at times to test this and did not experience any of the “rolling off” the edges sensation or have them compressed under my weight.

As for motion transfer, there is almost no motion transfer with this mattress. Any movement by me during the night wasn’t felt by Kaye much at all. The memory foam construction does a good job at preventing motion transfer.

Smell / Off-Gassing

The Live and Sleep Elite mattress, just like the previous Live and Sleep mattress that we have reviewed, had an average amount of off-gassing when taken out of the box and packaging.

This can be expected from the mattress built entirely of memory foam and it was nothing too serious as the odor dissipated quickly, within just a few hours upon opening the box.

Summary

The Live and Sleep Elite mattress is another luxury memory foam mattress offered by Live and Sleep online mattress company. It provides plenty of comfort and comes with some great design features and at a price that is hard to beat.

The combination of foam layers used in the design of the Live and Sleep Elite mattress work together to provide a very supportive yet comfortable sleeping surface that is ideal for all sleeping positions and all types of sleepers, particularly heavier sleepers.

It has that classic memory foam feel of body hug and contour without making you feel trapped in foam while it also has enough firmness needed to provide excellent support and keep your spine properly aligned regardless of your preferred sleeping position.

It also has excellent edge support and sleeps quite cool due to the use of the gel-infused transition layer and soft and breathable cover.

All in all, the Live and Sleep Elite is a very good memory foam mattress that we recommend for those who like the mattresses with a firmer feel as well as couples who like the feel of memory foam and don’t want to spend too much on a mattress.
