Construction and Materials

The  updated Leesa mattress is a 10″ all foam mattress that combines memory foam with a unique LSA200 Foam Technology for improved pressure relief, enhanced cooling and premium support. It is composed of the following layers:

  • 2″ LSA200 Foam Technology layer – The top layer is 2″ of the special LSA200 Foam Technology, designed to contour to every curve of your body, make you feel like you’re floating on air and provide an incredible pressure relief, especially for side sleepers. The unique LSA200 Foam Technology micro cell structure also allows greater airflow through the mattress and aids in cooling.
  • 2″ Middle layer – This layer is made up of 2″ of contouring memory foam designed to support the body and provide pressure relief and proper spinal alignment.
  • 6″ Bottom layer – This layer is 6″ of dense support foam that serves as the foundation for the layers above and works with them to provide excellent support for all types of sleepers and all sleeping positions.

The redesigned Leesa, just like the original Leesa model, has an extremely soft cover woven from one piece of polyester-Lycra blend fabric. The cover is highly-breathable and works to provide a cool sleeping surface that is pleasant to the touch and increase the overall comfort and luxuriousness of this mattress.

Firmness & Support

The new Leesa is a universal comfort type memory foam mattress, designed to appeal to a wide range of sleepers. We felt it to be a medium-firm mattress and would say it’s around a 6 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest).

As we always mention, firmness is largely weight dependent, and I as a heavier sleeper usually tend to compress the top comfort layers of most all foam mattresses and feel more of the support and base layers below which are often firmer and not so comfortable.

This is what happened with the original Leesa mattress. I compressed the top layers of the original Leesa more than Kaye did since I weigh considerably more than she does (230lbs vs. 115) and I didn’t feel it provided much support to me when sleeping. However, this wasn’t the case with the updated version.

Leesa’s famous Avena foam layer has been redesigned with a brand-new LSA200 Foam Technology layer that still has a responsiveness of the latex but is more comfortable and doesn’t have so much “sleeping on top of” feel that latex has.

This revolutionary new layer still allows for airflow but gives an incredible pressure relief improvement. It provides enough support as well necessary to keep your spine properly aligned and prevent you from sinking too deep into the mattress.

Foam from other mattresses tends to respond slowly in some areas, which means that certain areas of your body are left lacking support. But, this unique foam layer adapts to applying pressure and recovers faster than any other foam currently present on the online mattress market and, therefore, it provides just the right amount of support to those areas of your body where it is needed most.

So, they made this mattress better and I didn’t compress it as much as the original one. They improved the support layer and made their new mattress more suitable for heavier sleepers like myself. Unlike the original Leesa, this one supported my heavy weight and our weights combined with ease and distributed them evenly across the bed.

This new mattress works for all sleeping positions and all types of sleepers, especially side sleepers. Due to the use of the special LSA200 foam Technology layer, the All-New Leesa provides an incredible pressure relief for side sleepers.

It doesn’t create that “dead arm” sensation from pressure on the shoulders and hips, but rather contours to every curve of your body to make you feel like you’re floating on air.

We are primarily side sleepers and we can say it worked perfectly for us. It had enough give in the top comfort layers to cradle our hips and shoulders and prevent the appearance of pressure points and enough firmness to support our bodies and keep our spines properly aligned.

Comfort

Compared to the original Leesa, this updated version has everything that is necessary to provide you with a comfortable night’s sleep.

The top comfort LSA200 Foam Technology layer is soft enough to mold to your body which is something we especially like about this mattress.

It offers incredible pressure relief to prevent the appearance of pressure points and dead arm sensation while it’s at the same time supportive enough to keep your spine properly aligned regardless of your the position you sleep in.

This special foam layer has a quick response and reacts to your movements almost instantaneously. This means that it will quickly readjust to your new sleeping position as your move around in your bed during the night and provide the right amount of support to those areas of your body where it is needed most.

So, this new model is firm enough to be supportive, and yet has the softness necessary for a comfortable sleep. It will make you feel like you’re floating on air, but it will prevent you from sinking too much in the foam and feel enveloped by your mattress.

Sleeping Hot

Just like the original Leesa, this updated version does an excellent job of sleeping cool. Although it does not feature latex like the old Leesa, a special LSA200 Foam Technology micro cell structure allows for increased airflow and breathability.

This unique foam layer works perfectly with a soft breathable cover to prevent the build-up of excessive body heat, eliminate any discomfort and the feeling of stickiness usually present with many all foam mattresses and provide you with a cool and comfortable night’s sleep.

Sinkage and Motion Transfer

In terms of sinkage and motion transfer, again with many of these mattresses it is highly dependent on sleeper’s weight.

As I weigh considerably more than Kaye, around 230 lbs, I tend to sink a lot more into the mattress when sitting up or on the edge. This was particularly true of the original Leesa. When sitting on it, I compressed almost all the way through the mattress.

However, this was not the case with the redesigned Leesa mattress. It does an excellent job of minimizing the amount of sinkage and it did not cause me to bottom out like the original Leesa.

While I compressed the top comfort layer to a certain degree, the special foam used in this layer worked perfectly with the improved support layer and firmer base layer below to prevent me from sinking all the way down through the mattress and bottoming out.

Kaye didn’t experienced the same amount of sinkage as I did given that she’s half my weight, and most importantly, she didn’t roll towards me or feel as if she was going to sink into a hole. The mattress provided us with a nice lift and supported my heavy weight and our weights combined with ease and distributed them evenly across the bed.

Edge support with this mattress is also good. I didn’t press all the way down through the mattress and come to rest on the foundation of our bed when sitting on or near its edge, and it worked perfectly well for Kaye as well. We also didn’t experience any feeling of sliding which is often the case with other low quality 10″ all foam mattresses.

Other lower quality 10″ all foam mattresses also tend to sag in certain places as the time passes, but not the All-New Leesa. As the company notes, when their new mattress was subjected to an ASTM test (which measures foam’s durability and height over time), it lost less than 2% of its volume.

Given that the industry standard for foam stands at 10%, it’s clear that the All-New Leesa won’t begin to sag as you sleep on it night after night.

As for motion transfer, with the original Leesa there was a decent amount of motion transfer when I adjusted positions during the night due to our weight disparity, but with the All-New Leesa there is a very minimal amount of motion transfer coming from the responsive LSA200 Foam Technology layer.

It is nothing too serious and won’t disrupt your sleep and the sleep of your partner while changing positions or getting in and out of bed during the night.

Smell / Off-Gassing

There was a small degree of off-gassing / smell coming from this new Leesa mattress, but it was but nothing overpowering when compared to some other all foam mattresses we have reviewed. Therefore, we give the Leesa above-average marks in this category.

Customer Service

Leesa is pretty standard when it comes to their customer service offerings. Most mattresses in this category share about the same offerings in terms of sleep trials and warranty, and Leesa is no exception here.

Price

The redesigned Leesa mattress is, just like the original model, extremely reasonably priced, coming in at only $890 for a Queen. This is an excellent value given the highest-quality materials used in the construction of this mattress and its overall comfort.

Summary

The Leesa mattress took the company’s already popular bed and made it even better and more appealing to a wide variety of sleepers with its medium-firm feel and a perfect balance of comfort and support.

Its all foam construction combined with the unique LSA200 foam technology does a good job of providing extraordinary pressure relieving support as well as a comfortable nights sleep.

It contours to every curve of your body to make you feel like you’re floating on air while at the same time it quickly responds and adapts to pressure and provides support to those areas of your body where it is needed most.

It is unlike any other 10″ all foam mattress currently present on the online mattress market; it sleeps fairly cool, and does an excellent job of minimizing the amount of sinkage and motion transfer. It made our nights truly enjoyable and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality, comfortable mattress at a great price.
