Layla Hybrid Mattress Review
In this review, we take a look at the Layla Hybrid, the latest addition to the company’s mattress lineup.
Layla Sleep was started by two Silicon Valley brothers who grew up in the bed industry as well as other industry veterans.
The company does a great job at listening to their customers, and has gone over and above to take customer feedback into consideration, and has recently come up with this amazing hybrid model, which is similar to their original mattress in many ways, except for the several new features.
This bed features an individually wrapped coil system that perfectly supports every move and, just like the original Layla mattress, the Layla Hybrid features copper-infused memory foam and is also double-sided and flippable, with one softer and one firmer side, which makes it truly unique and sets it apart from other competing beds on the market.
The original Layla is one of our favorite memory foam mattresses on the market today, and you can read about it in our “Top 10 Best Mattresses Guide” and this is our review of their newest foam/coil hybrid mattress that recently hit the market with a unique design, quality materials, and some innovative features.
Our in-depth guide evaluates all of the criteria we use to determine what constitutes a good mattress, which includes firmness/support, comfort, sleeping hot, and other features as outlined below.

)Is the Layla Hybrid Mattress Right for You?
Buy the Layla Hybrid Mattress if you like:
- Memory foam feel – Both the firm and the soft side of the Layla Hybrid contain copper-infused memory foam that provides pressure relief. It will allow you to sink in the mattress to a certain degree and provide you with the classic memory foam feel of contouring without the feeling of being trapped.
- Sleeping cool – The THERMOgel infused cover of this mattress and the use of cooper-infused foam and pocketed coil system in its construction allow greater airflow through the mattress, prevent heat build-up, regulate temperature, and eliminate the sticky feeling that most all-foam mattresses cause.
- Adjustable mattress – The Layla Hybrid mattress could be an excellent choice for you if you are not sure which firmness level is right for you as it gives you the possibility to go from a soft to a firm feel in the same bed simply by turning the mattress over.
- Bounce and Responsiveness of hybrid mattresses – The Layla Hybrid mattress features pocketed coil system in its construction and provides a nice degree of bounce and responsiveness which facilitates moving around in bed and makes this mattress excellent for sex.
You might not like the Layla Hybrid Mattress if:
- You like the feeling of sleeping on top of a mattress – The Layla Hybrid is a medium-firm all-foam mattress that will allow your body to sink into it to a certain degree for perfect pressure relief and if you like the feeling of sleeping on top of a mattress rather than inside it, then this mattress may not be the right pick for you.
- You don’t like the bounce and responsiveness of hybrid mattresses – As mentioned, the Layla Hybrid features pocketed coil system in its construction which makes it have more bounce and responsiveness than all-foam mattresses. So, if you are not a big fan of this, the Layla Hybrid may not be the best choice for you.
Construction & Materials
The new Layla Hybrid mattress is a 13″ memory foam mattress built up of various layers of foam and pocketed coil system.
This mattress uses a a pocketed coil system as the core support layer, different inner support foam layers and top comfort layers on each side and provides different firmness settings when flipped over, to offer sleepers a choice of firmness.
The original Layla and the Layla Hybrid are the first-ever dual-sided copper-infused mattresses. Of all the mattress reviews we have done here at Memory Foam Talk, these are some of the most innovative.
Copper is included in both of them to help reduce joint inflammation and help ease joint pain and stiffness. That’s why they are perfect for those suffering from certain health conditions that can benefit from a better mattress.
The mattresses work in the same way as those copper bracelets you see people wearing, by reportedly improving circulation, improving blood flow, and aiding in alleviating health conditions as mentioned above.
Copper emits antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties and provides a lot of health benefits which makes the Layla mattresses excellent as they not only provide a great sleep, but also help you heal in the process.
The mattress consists of the following layers:
- 2.5″ Comfort Layer (Soft setting) – This layer is 2.5″ of high-density copper-infused memory foam that provides soft and plush feel, rapid cooling and body heat transfer. It also improves blood circulation and provides variable support for deep compression areas and prevents the appearance of any antimicrobial odors.
- 2″ Support Layer – This layer is 2″ Max Airflow convoluted foam that provides airflow and support for the top comfort layer above and zoned support for the body.
- 6″ Coil Support Layer – This layer is 6″ of infinity-edge individually wrapped coils that provide deep compression support for the body and excellent edge support and reduce the amount of motion transfer.
- 1.5″ Support Layer – This layer is 1.5″ of Max Airflow support foam that features deep channels for maximum cooling and provides zoned support for the body.
- 1″ Comfort Layer (Firm setting) – This layer is 1″ of the same high-density copper infused memory foam as the 2.5″ layer.
Just like the previous Layla mattress, the company designed this mattress with the use of copper, which is proven to increase blood flow and improve circulation for sleepers. In addition, copper also has natural cooling properties.
The cover of the new Layla Hybrid features an interesting and modern design just like the previous Layla mattress and is specially created to be double-sided and allow you to turn over the mattress from the soft side to the firm without removing it.
They made it in such way which clearly distinguishes which side is soft and which side is firm by labeling each side and making them be of two completely different colors.
Like the previous model, the cover of this one is also lined with THERMOgel technology that causes the bed to react to your body’s sweat in order to keep you cool at night while you sleep. Sleepers who suffer from heat or high temps when they sleep will appreciate this.
In addition, Layla Sleep is the first mattress company in the world to implement a proprietary softening process to their fabric which makes their covers much softer than any of other sleep products.
So, the exterior of the Layla Hybrid is incredibly soft and comfortable, and, in conjunction with the copper, it helps the mattress sleep cool and prevents sleepers from waking up hot and sweaty. We love the heat-regulating materials and the ability to change firmness which this bed does with ease and really helps us sleep.
In addition, the cover has integrated handles which allow you to easily flip the mattress and a zipper which allows you to remove the cover and clean it whenever it is necessary.
Firmness & Support
This mattress, just like the previous all-foam Layla mattress, allows you to choose the firmness level simply by flipping the mattress over. There is no need to unzip the cover in order to adjust the layers and your firmness level, but simply flip the mattress from the soft side to the firm.
As we mentioned, the bed is double-sided and each side is of a different color, and it not only saves sleepers time in the flipping process but also makes it easier for people to know which side they are sleeping on.
The softer side of the model is around a 6 on a firmness scale (10 being the firmest), while the firmer side offers a much firmer feel and falls around 8 out of 10 (10 being the firmest).
The soft side has 2.5″ of high-density copper-infused memory foam and 2″ of Max Airflow convoluted foam above the firmer pocketed coil system which gives it a softer feel while the firm side has only 1″ of the copper-infused memory foam and 1,5″ of Max Airflow foam above the firm pocketed coil support layer which makes this side significantly firmer.
We are primarily side sleepers and we like medium-firm mattresses that have enough give in their top comfort layers to cradle our shoulders and hips and enough firmness if we switch to our backs to keep our spines properly aligned.
That’s why we preferred sleeping on the softer side of the Layla Hybrid. Although I compressed the softer top comfort layer on this side quite a bit, the slightly firmer support layer beneath and the pocketed coil system prevented me from sinking even further into the mattress and feeling enveloped by it.
These layers worked perfectly together to lift my heavy body weight and our combined weights as a couple with ease and distributed them evenly across the bed.
So the Layla Hybrid, just like the original Layla did a great job at supporting both my heavier weight as well as Kaye’s lighter weight, without making us feel “trapped in foam”.
For those who prefer a firmer feel, the Layla Hybrid solves that by allowing you to turn the bed over. So, in terms of support, this bed, having two sides, provides excellent support for all types of sleepers and all sleeping positions.
It can suit all firmness preferences of all types of sleepers, from those sleepers that like the softer/medium feel to those wanting the firmer one, simply by flipping the mattress over, which is something that almost all “universal comfort” models can’t accomplish.
Comfort
The Layla Hybrid mattress is incredibly comfortable with its extremely soft cover and combination of various foam and coil system in its construction.
Depending on your firmness preference and what you like, you can choose to sleep either on a soft side or a firm side of the mattress simply by flipping it over.
Personally, I like softer mattresses which is why we slept on the softer side of the Layla Hybrid and we felt it to be extremely comfortable in all sleeping positions, particularly side sleeping.
The mattress offered a perfect balance of pressure-relieving comfort and support. It had just the right amount of give in the top comfort layers to mold to our shoulders and hips and prevent the appearance of pressure points, while the slightly firmer Max Airflow foam and pocketed system below offered enough support and kept our spines properly aligned.
All these layers combined, provide a nice lift and a good degree of bounce and responsiveness which facilitates moving around in bed, eliminates the feeling of being trapped in foam, and makes this mattress excellent for sex.
Sleeping Hot
The Layla Hybrid mattress sleeps quite cool due to its hybrid coil/foam construction and the use of the copper-infused memory foam, the special Max Airfoam and other cooling features in its construction.
The copper-infused memory foam effectively regulates temperature and prevents the build-up of excessive body heat. The copper naturally helps keep heat away and in combination with the Max Airflow layer, which features deep channels for increased airflow, and pocketed coil system it does a great job at keeping the mattress cool all night long.
The THERMOgel infused cover also aids in cooling and prevents excessive sweating and the appearance of that sticky sweaty feeling that many all-foam mattresses and hybrids featuring foam in their construction are known to cause.
For a heavier sleeper (230 lbs), living in Texas, and sleeping with a partner, this is a HUGE deal. I hate sweating during my night’s sleep personally, as many do.
So, this bed does a great job at helping you sleep much cooler and it gets high marks in this category.
Sinkage and Motion Transfer
Sinkage and motion transfer with the Layla Hybrid depend on which side of the mattress you choose to sleep on.
As we always preach, sinkage and motion transfer are largely weight dependent, and the fact that I weigh around 230lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on a mattress. Kaye, who is half my weight, experiences much less sinkage than I do, but again this is to be expected due to her much lighter weight.
When sleeping on the softer side of the Layla Hybrid, my heavier weight compressed the top comfort foam layer quite a bit, but this is something I personally enjoy, as I prefer the feeling of my body being contoured in foam which helps support my back and shoulders.
The slightly firmer Max Airflow support layer and the pocketed coil system below prevented me from sinking even further into the mattress and feeling enveloped by it. They did a great job at supporting my heavier weight and our combined weights as a couple and distributed them evenly across the bed.
They also didn’t cause Kaye to “roll down into me” and make her sleep near the edge because of our weight difference, which is one of our pet peeves.
Edge support is good with this mattress due to the special infinity-edge coil system which prevents you from compressing the edges too much when sitting or lying near them.
To test this, I slept near the edges at times and I did not compress them or sink down too much at all which is often the case with other lower quality mattresses. I also didn’t experience any “rolling off the edges” sensation.
As for motion transfer, there was some motion transfer with the Layla Hybrid which was mostly due to its hybrid nature and the use of pocketed coils in its construction. However, it was nothing too serious and did not interfere with our sleep.
Smell / Off-Gassing
The Layla Hybrid mattress gets high marks in this category for not having too much of a noticeable smell upon opening the box.
Any smell that was present was due to the use of various foams in its construction and the fact that it comes tightly compressed in a plastic package, but it was nothing overwhelming and dissipated pretty quickly (within a few hours).

FAQs
Is a mattress protector needed? Not really as it may prevent the temperature regulating material in the layers from being in contact with your body and helping to dissipate heat. We personally don’t use mattress protectors for this reason, and our reviews of all products try to emphasize this.
Does it work on adjustable beds? These mattresses work great on adjustable beds. We sleep on a Saatva Lineal Base and it does a great job in combination with this bed when using it.
How easy are returns? Returns are very easy. All you do is call their company and talk to their Sleep Advisors and they will arrange for a local charity to come pick up the mattress, no stuffing it back in the box and trying to ship it back. Easy cheesy, free shipping both ways.
Do they have Financing? Yes, you can get financing through the Affirm company, given a quick credit approval. You can then purchase over time with fixed monthly payments with rates of 10-30% APR.
What about the warranty? The company offers a lifetime warranty which covers it from defects and makes sure if you have any major problems with their mattresses with it you can get a replacement. Check out the company website www.laylasleep.com for more info on this.
Price
The Layla Hybrid mattress is priced a bit higher with a Queen sized mattress coming in at $1399, but this is quite a reasonable price for a hybrid mattress that offers 2 different firmness options by flipping it over and includes innovative cooling technology.

The mattress provides just the right balance of comfort and support regardless of which side you choose to sleep on. It has enough give on both sides to cradle your shoulders and hips and prevent the appearance of pressure points, while it also has enough firmness needed to keep your spine properly aligned if you switch to your stomach or back.
