IDLE came out with a variety of different mattresses, all with their trademark flippable design, including a Hybrid, Latex, and All Foam model that we’ll be reviewing in today’s review.
This is our in-depth review of the IDLE Sleep All Foam mattress which features a 14-inch design and unique technology and promises a great sleep and maximum comfort and support for all types of sleepers.
In this review we’ll evaluate all of the criteria we use to determine what constitutes a good mattress, which includes firmness / support, comfort, sleeping hot, and other features as outlined below.
Hopefully this IDLE Sleep mattress review will help you in your next mattress purchase decision! Review last updated
Construction and Materials
The IDLE Sleep All Foam mattress is a 14″ all foam mattress made up of 5 layers, with the top comfort layers which are basically duplicated when flipped over.
- 1″ Top Comfort Layer – This layer is 1″ of IDLE Quilting foam that is sewn into the cover and designed to provide softness and comfort to the top layer of the mattress.
- 3″ Response Layer – This layer is 3″ of IDLE Swirl Buoyancy Foam that is the company’s custom blend foam designed to be more responsive than memory foam which makes changing positions and getting in and out of bed during the night much easier. It also doesn’t retain heat, provides a better support than traditional memory foam and 4x better pressure relief.
- 6″ Support Layer – This layer is 6″ of durable high-density foam that provides deep compression support and minimizes motion transfer.
- 1″ Comfort Layer – This layer is the same like the top comfort layer as all IDLE Sleep mattresses are dual sided and can be flipped over which can significantly extend the life of your mattresses. This means that these mattresses have the same layers on both sides and these layers offer the same amount of comfort and support.
- 3″ Response Layer – This layer is also the same like the top response layer. Idle Sleep All Foam mattress layers
The cover of the IDLE Sleep All Foam mattress is infused with Thermocool – a material that aids in airflow, dissipates heat and acts as phase-change temperature regulating material that cools you when you’re warm, and warms you when you are cool.
The cover has a nice pattern that feels good to touch and adds to the overall comfort and luxuriousness of this mattress.
Dual Sided Design
As mentioned, the IDLE Sleep mattresses differ from other bed-in-a-box mattresses on the market in that they can be flipped over to prevent body indentation and softening up of the bed over time, and this All Foam model is no exception too.
Most of the flippable beds we have tested have different firmnesses on each side, which at first we thought the Idle Sleep beds provided, but instead, IDLE creates the mattresses that have the same the firmness on each side, which allows you to flip and rotate your bed like a traditional mattress you may be used to.
This extends the life of your mattress and prevents the appearance of indentations or sagging if it happens that you or your partner is heavier than the other.
Firmness & Support
The IDLE Sleep All Foam mattress comes in 2 different firmness options: Medium and Luxury Firm. We tested the medium firm model, and rate it around a 6.5 out of 10 (10 being the firmest). The company says it is more of a 5.5 / 6, which can be seen from their firmness scale given below, but we felt it to be a bit firmer.
Over time, the mattress may soften up, but we initially felt it to be on the firmer end of the medium spectrum.
For Kaye the mattress was of the perfect firmness as she generally prefers mattresses with a firmer feel, but it felt a little firmer to me as I’m significantly heavier than Kaye and tend to press through the top comfort layers and feel more of the harder support layers beneath in most mattresses.
The Idle Sleep All Foam mattress, just like Idle Sleep Hybrid, has a nice 14″ thick design which worked perfectly well with the response and support layer to support both my heavy weight (230 lbs) and Kaye’s lighter weight and distribute them evenly across the bed.
It also prevented me from sinking too deep into the mattress and bottoming out which often happens with other thinner and lower quality all foam mattresses.
In terms of support, the IDLE Sleep All Foam mattress does a really good job of providing excellent support in all sleeping positions, with the top comfort layer of soft IDLE Quilting foam providing body hug and contour and the underlying response layer and firmer high-density support layer providing the deep compression support for the body.
Since we are primarily side sleepers, we like mattresses that offer enough give in the top comfort layer to cradle our shoulders and hips, while also having the firmness to keep our spines properly aligned if we switch to our stomachs and backs.
The medium version of the IDLE Sleep all foam mattress provides this and, therefore, it is ideal for side sleeping.
The Idle Sleep all foam mattress combines the luxurious IDLE Buoyancy Foam with high-density foam core support system to provide an ideal balance of cushioning comfort and support necessary for all sleeping positions.
We are big fans of memory foam personally, and we like that hug feel of memory foam and the feeling of “sleeping in” a mattress, rather than “sleeping on top of it” that many latex and hybrids are known for, and this is what the IDLE Sleep All Foam mattress provided us with.
It has a soft and comfortable top comfort layer that will cradle and mold to your hips, shoulders and prevent discomfort at your pressure points. It will hug your body and provide you with a nice sink-in feel, but will not cause you to sink too deep into the mattress and feel enveloped by foam.
The mattress also has the firmness necessary to support you and keep your spine properly aligned regardless of which sleeping position you prefer.
There is a good degree of bounce and responsiveness with this mattress too coming from the IDLE Swirl Buoyancy Foam used in its response layer which facilitates changing positions during the night and makes this mattress ideal for sex.
The cooling technologies that it features will prevent the build up of heat, keep you cool and comfortable all night long, and eliminate that sticky, sweaty feel that some all-foam mattresses tend to cause.
Sleeping hot is a big issue for us as a couple living in Texas, and is something that many all foam mattresses fail to deal with. The IDLE Sleep All Foam mattress, however, successfully solves this issue by using unique cooling technologies in its construction.
As it has been already mentioned, the cover of this mattress is made of the company’s special Thermocool fabric designed to work with the body’s natural thermal capabilities through smart fiber cross-sections to keep you warm when you are cold and cool when you feel hot.
The mattress also uses the IDLE Cooling Buoyancy Foam in its response layer that not only provides extraordinary pressure relief, but also works with the special cover to keep the mattress cool and prevent the build up of heat and that sticky, sweaty feeling typical for many all foam mattresses.
Sinkage & Motion Transfer
The IDLE Sleep All Foam mattress does a good job with sinkage, especially when compared to most other all foam mattresses we have reviewed.
As we always preach, sinkage and motion transfer are largely weight dependent. We repeat this constantly, but it really is true. Thicker beds, such as the IDLE with its 14″ design, do a lot better in this category than the thinner 10″ models we have reviewed.
The fact that I weigh around 230 lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on a mattress, which is something that my partner Kaye who is half of my weight doesn’t experience.
My heavy weight tends to compress most all foam mattresses quite a bit when sitting on the edge, or upright in bed. With the IDLE All Foam mattress, this wasn’t a problem. Its 14″ design, the IDLE Swirl Buoyancy Foam used in its response layer and the high-density support layer worked perfectly well with other foams to prevent excessive sinkage and eliminate the feeling of being stuck in foam.
Edge support is also good with this mattress. I sat on the edges and didn’t have them compressed under my weight. I compressed the softer top comfort layer to a certain degree but the firmer response and support layers below supported my heavy weight with ease.
I didn’t sink all the way down through the mattress and come to rest on the foundation of our bed. I also slept near the edges at times and didn’t experience any of the “rolling off” the edges.
Motion transfer is minimal with this mattress as well. Although there is some amount of bounce and responsiveness coming from the IDLE Swirl Buoyancy Foam used in its response layer, the other foam layers work together to prevent excessive motion transfer and eliminate the possibility of disrupting the sleep of your partner when you move around or get in and out of bed during the night.
Smell / Off-Gassing?
Off-gassing is often a problem for many all-foam beds that come compressed in a plastic package and shipped in a box, but thankfully this isn’t the case with the IDLE.
The IDLE Sleep All Foam mattress gets high marks in this category for not having any noticeable smell upon opening the box. The company uses only Natural, CentiPUR-US certified foams which significantly minimizes the degree of off-gassing that all foam mattresses usually have.
IDLE Sleep has above average customer service offerings that most bed-in-a-box online mattress companies offer these days. This can be seen from the lifetime warranty that the company offers for their mattresses which only a few mattress companies provide these days. Their customer service includes the following:
- 120 night Trial period
- Lifetime Warranty
- Free Shipping
- 100% money back guarantee for Returns / Refunds
- Save $300 by clicking here
- American made
The IDLE Sleep All Foam mattress is a bit pricier than other all foam mattresses available on a bed-in-a-box market, coming in at $1199 for a Queen save $300 by clicking here , but this is a good value given the highest-quality materials used in the construction of this mattress and the overall comfort and luxuriousness that it provides.
The IDLE Sleep All Foam mattress is a great all foam mattress with unique flippable design and special cooling technology. It comes in two firmness options: Medium and Luxury Firm, and for the purposes of this review we have tested the Medium firmness option which offers amazing comfort and support necessary for a quality and sound night’s sleep and works perfectly well for all sleeping styles.
The top comfort layer made of the IDLE Quilting foam provides the softness and that classic memory foam feel that will make you get the impression of sleeping on clouds. It cushions and cradles your body to relieve your pressure points and provide you with a relaxed and painless sleeping experience.
This cloud-like feel is balanced with the firmer underlying response layer and high-density support layer that work together to support your body, provide you with a nice lift and prevent you from sinking too deep into the mattress and feel trapped in foam.
Overall, this is a great mattress, and with all the comfort that it offers, you may want to make it your next mattress purchase!
