Construction and Materials
The Helix Dusk mattress is a 12″ hybrid mattress made up of memory foam, latex and hundreds of individually wrapped coils and it consists of the following layers.
- Top Comfort Layer – This layer is made of the Helix Dynamic Foam which is a special latex-foam hybrid alternative designed to provide quick response to pressure and contour to your body.
- Transition Layer – This layer is made of Helix Memory Plus Foam, which is a special Helix blend that offers extremely soft feel and pressure relief. It serves as a transition layer between a softer top comfort layer and pocketed coils beneath.
- Body Shape Layer – This layer is made of individually wrapped coils. There are hundreds of individual coils that serve to cradle and support your body while sleeping and limit excessive motion transfer. Reinforced perimeter offers additional support and excellent edge support while the whole layer allows greater airflow, adds to the overall breathability of this mattress and aids in cooling.
- Base Layer – This layer is made of DuraDense high-density support foam that serves as the foundation and support for the mattress and increases its durability and stability.

Firmness & Support
The Helix Dusk mattress is offered only in one firmness option and we felt it to be around a 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. (10 being firmest).
The company has their own firmness scale and they rate this mattress in a range you can see below.

Helix Dusk firmness scale
The top comfort layer of Helix Dynamic Foam provided a soft feel and allowed us to sink into it to a certain degree for a perfect pressure relief. It cradled our hips and shoulders and eliminated any pain and discomfort.
Being made of the latex-foam hybrid alternative, this layer also offers a nice degree of bounce and responsiveness. It allowed us to easily change positions and get in and out of bed during the night and didn’t make us feel stuck in foam.
The slightly firmer memory foam layer beneath combined with the pocketed coil layer did an excellent job of lifting my heavy weight and providing the right amount of support to those areas of my body where it was needed most.
As the top and middle layers of the Helix Dusk are optimized to provide a perfect support, this mattress is ideal for back and stomach sleepers and couples with different preferences.
We are primarily side sleepers, but it worked perfectly well for this sleeping position too. It had just enough give in the top comfort layer to cushion our shoulders and hips and prevent the appearance of pressure points while it also offered the right amount of support to keep our spines naturally aligned.

So, in terms of support, this mattress does a great job of providing excellent support for all sleeping positions and all types of sleepers.
Various layers of the Helix Dusk lifted my heavy weight and our combined weights as a couple with ease wand distributed them evenly across the bed.
Comfort
The Helix Dusk mattress is quite comfortable with its top comfort layer made of the special Helix Dynamic Foam which works with the extremely soft and breathable cover to provide a comfortable and pressure relieving sleeping surface that stimulates faster recovery and better sleep.
The slightly firmer transition layer of memory foam and pocketed coil system below provide excellent support needed to keep your spine properly aligned regardless of your preferred sleeping position.

Helix Dusk corner view
The Helix Dusk provides an ideal balance of comfort and support while it also has enough responsiveness and bounce coming from the top comfort layer made of the special latex-foam hybrid alternative and pocketed coil system which facilitates moving around in bed and makes the late night adult entertainment quite enjoyable.
Sleeping Hot
The Helix Dusk mattress does a great job at keeping things cool and comfortable all night long.
The combination of latex-foam hybrid layer with the layer of breathable memory foam and pocketed coil system does a very good job at preventing the build-up of excessive body heat during the night when compared to other mattresses we have reviewed.
The mattress also comes with a special Soft Touch Design cover created to increase airflow through the mattress and keep the top of your mattress cool at night.
Sinkage & Motion Transfer
The Helix Dusk mattress does a good job of reducing the amount of sinkage and motion transfer too.
As we always preach, sinkage and motion transfer are largely weight dependent and the fact that I weight around 230 lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on a mattress. Kaye, who is half my weight, experiences much less sinkage due to her much lighter weight
I compressed the top comfort layer of this mattress to a certain degree, but the slightly firmer memory foam in the transition layer and pocketed coil layer beneath prevented me from sinking further into the mattress and feeling stuck in it. They perfectly worked together to support and lift my body and distribute my weight evenly across the bed.
Kaye felt it did the same for her. It supported her lighter weight with ease and also stopped her from rolling into me due to our weight differences. She didn’t experience the common feel of “sinking into a hole” which is often the case with other lower quality mattresses.
Edge support was also good with this mattress due to the reinforced perimeter of the pocketed coil layer. It is true that I compressed the top comfort layer a bit when sitting and lying near the edge, but the firmer memory foam layer and pocketed coils prevented me from bottoming out. We also didn’t experience any “rolling off” the edges sensation.

As for motion transfer, there is some amount of it due to the use of the special latex-foam hybrid layer and the layer of pocketed coils in the construction of this mattress. However, it was nothing too extreme and did not interfere with our sleep.
Smell / Off-Gassing
The Helix Dusk mattress gets high marks in this category for not having much of a noticeable smell upon opening the box.
The hybrid design makes a difference with the amount of off-gassing. We experienced some, but it largely dissipated over the first few nights.
