Is the Helix Dawn Luxe Mattress Right for You?

Buy the Helix Dawn Luxe Mattress if you like:

  • Sleeping on your stomach and back – This mattress features a special zoned pocketed coil layer and high density foams which provide a firmer feel and excellent support needed to keep your spine properly aligned while sleeping on your stomach or back.
  • A mattress that sleeps cool – The Helix Dawn Luxe sleeps quite cool due to its unique pocketed coil layer that allows the air to circulate freely through the mattress and prevent the build up of heat and a special Ultra Breathable Cover designed to increase airflow through the top of the mattress in order to create a pleasant sleeping surface and keep you cool during the night.
  • Mattresses with zoned support – This mattress features a thick Zoned Body Shape layer consisting of individually wrapped coils that serve to cradle and support your body while sleeping. They provide the right amount of support to those areas of your body where it is needed most. This layer offers a softer feel under your shoulders and firmer under hips to cradle your body, align your spine and provide advanced lumbar and edge support.

You might not like the Helix Dawn Luxe Mattress if:

  • You don’t like the bounce and responsiveness of hybrid mattresses – The Helix Dawn Luxe is a hybrid mattress constructed of multiple foam layers and pocketed coils which work together to give this mattress a lot of bounce and responsiveness.
  • Firm mattresses – Like we have already mentioned, the Helix Dawn Luxe is made of the high-density foams and special pocketed coil system that provide extraordinary support and a firm feel. If you prefer mattresses with a somewhat softer feel, then this one might not be the right pick for you.

Construction and Materials

The Helix Dawn Luxe mattress is a 14″ hybrid mattress made up of high-density foams and 1000 + pocketed coils and it consists of the following layers:

  • Comfort Layer – This layer is made of the special high-density Gel Visco Foam that offers a firm feel while it also cushions your body and provides excellent pressure relief.
  • Support Layer – This layer is made of the Helix Dynamic Foam, designed to react and contour to your body and provide support.
  • Transition Layer – This layer is made of high-density High-Grade Polyfoam, designed to provide ergonomic support, contour to your body and serve as a transition layer between the top comfort foam layers and coils bellow. It also allows a seamless progression of your body weight into the mattress.
  • Zoned Body Shape Layer – This layer is made of individually wrapped coils that serve to cradle and support your body while sleeping and limit excessive motion transfer. They provide the right amount of support to those areas of your body where it is needed most. It offers a softer feel under your shoulders and firmer under hips to cradle your body, align your spine and provide advanced lumbar and edge support.
  • Base Layer – This layer is made of DuraDense high-density support foam that serves as the foundation and support for the mattress and increases its durability and stability.

Firmness & Support

The Helix Dawn Luxe mattress is offered in only one firmness option designed to provide support that back, stomach and heavier sleepers need and we rate it around an 8.5 out of 10 (10 being the firmest), so it is on a firm side.

The company has their own firmness scale on their site and they rate this mattress in a similar way, in a range you can see below.

We both felt this mattress to be on the firm side, although we initially felt some cushioning coming from its quilted cover and dense foam layers beneath.

We are primarily side sleepers and these layers allowed us to sink into them to a certain degree, cradled our hips and shoulders to prevent the appearance of pressure points while they also didn’t make us feel stuck in foam.

Zoning technology used in the coil layer offered a softer feel under my shoulders and firmer under my hips which combined with the high-density, firm foams, made this mattress perfect for stomach and back sleepers as well as heavier sleepers such as myself.

All this gave us the feeling of sleeping more on the top of the mattress rather than inside it. As mentioned, the quilted top and foam layers both cushioned and supported my body, and combined with the zoned pocketed coil layer below, they did an excellent job of supporting my heavy weight and our weights combined sleeping as a couple and distributed them evenly across the bed.

A high-quality hybrid construction and materials of this mattress offer the amount of support that a heavy sleeper such as myself needs, and although it is more on the firmer side due to the high-density foams and strong pocketed coil system used in its construction, ti has enough pressure relieving comfort at the same time that both Kaye and myself prefer as a couple sharing a mattress.

Comfort

The Helix Dawn Luxe mattress is quite comfortable. Although it is on a firm side and may feel a bit too firm to sleepers with a smaller frame, it is also very comfortable with its amazing 14″ thickness, quilted top and various high density foams which work together to contour to your body and provide a comfortable and pressure relieving sleeping surface.

Like mentioned, the mattress allowed me to sink into its top comfort layers to a certain degree and perfectly molded to my hips and shoulders, while it also provided excellent support due to the dense foams and the special zoned pocketed coil system used in its construction.

There is also enough bounce and responsiveness to this mattress coming from its hybrid coil construction which facilitates changing positions and getting in and out of bed during the night and which makes late night adult entertainment quite favorable.

Sleeping Hot

The Helix Dawn Luxe mattress, like the previous Helix Luxe mattresses that we have reviewed, does an excellent job at sleeping cool due to its unique pocketed coil layer that allows the air to circulate freely through the mattress and prevent the build up of heat.

It also features a special Ultra Breathable Cover designed to increase airflow through the top of the mattress in order to create a pleasant sleeping surface and keep you cool during the night.

Sinkage & Motion Transfer

The Helix Dawn Luxe does an amazing job with minimizing sinkage, especially when compared to most other hybrid mattresses we have reviewed.

As we always tend to mention, sinkage and motion transfer are largely weight dependent and the fact that I weigh around 230 lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on a mattress.

I often tend to compress the top comfort layers of most hybrid mattresses quite a bit and come to rest on their coil support layers which are hard and not so comfortable.

But, this was not the case with the Helix Dawn Luxe mattress. Although I compressed its top comfort layers a little, I did not feel the pocketed coil layer beneath.

In addition, the pocketed coil layer combined with the high-density foams prevented me from sinking too much into the mattress and provided me with a nice lift and the feeling of sleeping on top of a mattress rather than inside it.

These layers lifted my heavy weight with ease and distributed it evenly across the bed while the zoned technology of the pocketed coil layer provided just the right amount of support to those areas of my body where I needed it most.

Kaye generally prefers mattresses with a firmer feel, so she felt this one worked perfectly for her. It supported her lighter weight and didn’t cause her to roll into me which is often the case with lower quality mattresses due to our weight differences.

She also didn’t experience the common feel of “sinking into a hole” which resulted in peaceful and truly enjoyable night’s for both.

Edge support is excellent with this mattress and better than with many other beds we have reviewed so far due to the quality foams and pocketed coils used in its construction.

As for motion transfer with this mattress, there was some of it due to its hybrid construction, but it was nothing too extreme and did not interfere with our sleep.

Smell / Off-Gassing

The Helix Dawn Luxe gets high marks in this category as well. It didn’t have much of a noticeable smell upon opening the box. Its hybrid design significantly reduced the amount of of-gassing and any smell that was present dissipated within a few hours.

Customer Service

Helix Sleep provides about the standard amount of customer service you can expect in a “Bed In A Box” online mattress retailer. This includes:

Price

The Helix Dawn Luxe mattress is priced a bit higher and comes in at $1599 for a Queen.

However, for a mattress of such a unique construction and highest-quality materials that are used in its construction, this is more than a reasonable price.

Twin$895
Twin XL$1149

Summary

The Helix Dawn Luxe is another amazing foam / coil hybrid that comes from the Helix’s luxurious line of mattresses.

It is a 14″ thick hybrid built of the highest quality pocketed coils and dense foams and is designed to work perfectly for back and stomach sleepers as well as heavier sleepers.

Its zoned technology will provide just the right amount of support to those areas of your body that need it most and it will keep your spine properly aligned while the quilted cover and top comfort layer will provide some cushioning and nice pressure relief.

There is also an optimal degree of bounce and responsiveness with this mattress coming from the use of the pocketed coils in its construction. Although this may cause some motion transfer, there won’t be much of it as the multiple layers of thick foams and individually pocketed coils help minimize movement between sleepers.

Besides this, the mattress sleeps incredibly cool due to the special ultra breathable quilted cover that works with the pocketed coil layer to allow the air to circulate freely through the mattress and keep you cool and comfortable all night long.

Sinkage is minimal with this mattress due to its nice 14″ design, durable foams and strong coils used in its construction which allow you to sink into the top comfort layers a bit to prevent the appearance of pressure points but which also provide you with a good lift and stop you from sinking further into the mattress and feel enveloped by it.

If you are looking for a luxurious and supportive hybrid mattress, that will provide the right amount of support needed for stomach and back sleeping, that will support your heavy weight with ease and work perfectly for both you and your partner, you can’t go wrong choosing the Helix Dawn Luxe mattress.
