Is the Happsy Mattress Right for You?

Buy the Happsy mattress if you like:

  • Eco-friendly materials – The Happsy mattress is made of all natural, eco-friendly materials such as organic latex, cotton and wool, without any petroleum-based polyurethane foam, toxic flame retardants, dangerous pesticides, and without risk from volatile chemicals and gasses.
  • Mattress with bounce – The combination of latex and innerspring coils used in the mattress construction creates a pretty large degree of bounce and responsiveness.
  • Mattresses that sleep cool – The special materials used in the construction of this mattress dissipate excessive body heat and allow greater circulation of air through the bed to keep the things cool and comfortable all night long.

You might not like the Happsy mattress if:

  • You don’t like the feeling of sleeping on top of a mattress – The Happsy mattress is a latex/coil hybrid which provides the feel of sleeping on top of a mattress rather than inside it, so, if you prefer mattresses with a softer feel that will hug and mold to your body, then this mattress may not be the right pick for you.
  • You don’t like the bounce and responsiveness of hybrid mattresses – As we have already mentioned the Happsy is a latex/coil hybrid which makes it have a lot more bounce than other memory foam/coil hybrids or all foam mattresses. If you don’t like bouncy mattresses that are likely to cause a little motion transfer, the Happsy may not be the best choice for you.

Construction and Materials

The Happsy is a 10″ hybrid made of certified organic latex, cotton, wool and premium pocketed coils all wrapped with the highest-quality cover. It consists of the following layers:

  • 2″ Organic Latex Comfort Layer – This layer is 2″ of organic latex designed to provide durable and yet cool and contouring sleep surface and responsiveness to the mattress. It offers the feeling of floating and sleeping on top of a mattress rather than inside it.
  • 8″ Bottom Layer – This layer is 8″ of individually wrapped glueless coils that serve as the foundation for the mattress, minimize motion transfer and provide great support for the proper spinal alignment. The coils also offer a nice amount of bounce and responsiveness, allow greater airflow through the mattress and aid in heat dissipation.

The cover of the Happsy mattress is made of organic cotton that is extremely breathable and soft to the touch. Beneath it, there is a thin layer of organic wool batting quilted into the cover which adds to the overall comfort and luxuriousness of this mattress, allows greater airflow through the bed, wicks away moisture and provides you with a cool and comfortable sleep.

For a plusher and more luxurious feel, the company gives you an option to add the Happsy Organic Mattress Topper to the top of the mattress. It will add an extra 2″ of soft organic latex and make your night’s sleep more enjoyable.

Firmness & Support

The Happsy mattress is offered only in one firmness option which we felt to be around a 7.5 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest) and is designed to suit the needs of all types of sleepers and all sleeping styles.

If you prefer softer mattresses and that pillowtop feel, you can get the Happsy Mattress Topper which will add an extra 2″ of soft organic latex to the top of your mattress and make it more comfortable.

With most mattresses, since I am significantly heavier than Kaye (230 lbs vs. 115 lbs), I tend to press through the top comfort layers and feel more of the firmer support layers which are often hard and not so comfortable.

However, this was not the case with the Happsy. Although its top comfort layer is only 2″ thick, it provides enough response and pushback and “floating on top feeling” rather than “sleeping inside” the the mattress feeling.

It is true that I compressed it quite a bit, but I did not feel the support coils beneath. This layer combined with the pocketed coil system worked perfectly well to lift and support my heavy weight and our weights combined as a couple with ease and distribute them evenly across the bed.

So, in terms of support, the Happsy mattress does a really good job of providing excellent support in all sleeping positions and for all types of sleepers.

We are primarily side sleepers and we like mattresses that have enough give in the top comfort layer to cradle our shoulders and hips and relieve pressure points, while also having the firmness if we switch to our stomachs and backs.

I felt my shoulders and hips were supported well by this mattress, but the top latex comfort layer and coils beneath created a little stiffer feel than I usually like.

Comfort

The Happsy mattress is comfortable with the soft cover made of organic cotton and a thin layer of plush wool batting quilted into it, natural latex layer and individually pocketed coils.

They all work together to provide the right balance of comfort and support necessary for all sleeping positions and all types of sleepers, although heavier sleepers who prefer sleeping on their side might think about getting the Happsy mattress topper as well.

As this is a coil/latex hybrid, it won’t cause you to sink down in it like traditional memory foam, so you will get the feeling of sleeping more “on top” of the mattress rather than inside it.

The pocketed coil layer combined with the latex layer did a good job of supporting my heavy body weight and our combined weights as a couple with ease and distributed them evenly across the bed.

Because of its hybrid nature using pocketed coils and latex layer, this mattress has a lot of bounce and responsiveness which facilitates moving around in bed and getting in and out of it during the night and makes late night adult entertainment (sex) quite favorable.

Sleeping Hot

The Happsy mattress does a good job at sleeping cool due to its hybrid construction and the use of breathable and naturally cooling materials.

Latex is known for its naturally cooling properties, while the organic cotton and wool batting effectively wick away moisture and work with the pocketed coil layer to allow the air to circulate freely through the mattress and prevent the retention of heat.

The soft and breathable cover of this mattress and the layer of wool batting kept the sleeping surface of the mattress cool throughout the whole night and did not make us wake up feeling hot and sweaty as it is often the case with many other mattresses featuring memory foam in their construction.

Sinkage & Motion Transfer

The Happsy mattress does a good job at minimizing the amount of sinkage and motion transfer.

As we always tend to mention, sinkage and motion transfer are largely weight dependent, and the fact that I weigh around 230 lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on a mattress. Kaye, who is half my weight, experiences much less sinkage than I do, but again this is to be expected due to her much lighter weight.

It is true that I compressed the top comfort layer of latex quite a bit, but it worked perfectly well with the pocketed coil system below to stop me from sinking even further into the mattress and feeling enveloped by it.

These two worked well together to lift my heavy body weight and our combined weights sleeping as a couple and distributed them evenly across the bed. Kaye didn’t roll into me due to our weight disparity and didn’t feel any “sinking into a hole” sensation.

Edge support was also good with this mattress. I compressed the bed to a certain degree when sitting on its edge due to my heavy weight but the latex layer and pocketed coil system prevented me from sinking all the way down through the mattress and bottoming out as it is often the case with lower quality 10″ all foam mattresses.

The Happsy supported my weight and prevented me from rolling off the mattress when sleeping near the edges.

As for motion transfer with this mattress, there is some motion transfer with, but it is to be expected from a hybrid mattress of such construction as the coils and latex provide a pretty large degree of bounce and responsiveness. But, it was nothing too extreme and did not interfere with our sleep.

Smell / Off-Gassing

The Happsy mattress gets high marks in this category for not having any noticeable smell upon opening the box.

This is a result of its unique construction which does not include any foam or glue, just coils, natural latex, wool batting and cotton. In addition, its design does not include any harsh chemicals or VOCs that often contribute to chemical smells and off-gassing.

Customer Service

Happsy provides pretty much standard customer service offerings that you can expect from bed-in-a-box online mattress retailer and this includes the following:

Summary

The Happsy is a nice, eco-friendly coil/latex hybrid mattress that provides good comfort and support for all sleeping styles and comes in at an affordable price.

The combination of the strong pocketed coil system with the latex layer provides a nice degree of bounce and responsiveness which gives you the feeling of “sleeping on top” of a mattress rather than inside it.

This also facilitates changing positions and getting in and out of bed during the night and makes this mattress perfect for sex.

There is a some motion transfer with the Happsy, but that is it to be expected due to the innerspring construction and the use of a naturally buoyant latex.

The mattress also sleeps quite cool due to its hybrid design and the use of latex and organic wool batting known for their natural cooling and thermoregulating properties.

All in all, this is a great mattress for a great price and we hope this review helps you out in your next purchase decision. If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know!
