Construction and Materials

The Brentwood Home Cypress is an 11″ all foam mattress composed of the following layers:

  • 1″ Comfort Layer – This layer is 1″ of charcoal-infused memory foam with BioFoam designed to provide plush contouring comfort, allow greater airflow through the mattress, wick heat and moisture away from the body and keep you cool and dry all night long.
  • 2″ Transition Layer – This layer is 2″ of transition foam that provides support and serves as the transition layer between the plush foam on top and a firm support base layer below.
  • 8″ Support Base Layer – This layer is 8″ of high-density contour cut support foam that provides excellent support for all sleeping positions and all types of sleepers, acts as the foundation for the layers above and provides greater stability to the mattress.

The Cypress has a very luxurious soft knit cover made of 99% polyester and 1% spandex. It is extremely soft and breathable and pleasant to the touch and allows you to get the full benefits of the top comfort layer of charcoal-infused memory foam.

Firmness & Support

The Brentwood Home Cypress is a premium all foam mattress that comes in only one universal comfort option designed to appeal to a wide range of sleepers with different needs and sleep preferences. We felt it was a medium firm mattress and rate it at a 6 out of 10 (10 being the firmest).

As we always preach, firmness is largely weight dependent, and I usually tend to compress the top comfort layers of most mattresses more than Kaye does as I weigh considerably more than she does (230 lbs vs. 115).

Although I compressed the top comfort layer of charcoal-infused memory foam to a certain degree, the slightly firmer transition layer and the firm contour cut base support layer supported my heavier weight with ease and distributed it evenly across the bed.

These layers worked perfectly together to support my heavy weight and prevent me from sinking too much into the mattress and feel trapped in foam.

In addition, the special contour cut base layer provides excellent support for all sleeping positions and all types of sleepers. It will contour to your body curves and provide just the right amount of support to those areas of your body where it is needed most.

Comfort

The Brentwood Home Cypress mattress is quite comfortable with its layers of various foams which all work together to provide a perfect balance of comfort and support needed for all sleeping positions and all types of sleepers.

Although the mattress may initially feel a bit firm and not as cushioned, as the time passes it will adapt to your body and become much more comfortable.

It offers enough give in the top comfort layer to cradle your shoulders and hips and prevent the appearance of pressure points while it also has enough firmness necessary to keep your spine properly aligned if you switch to your stomach or back.

We are primarily side sleepers and we like how this mattress worked for us. It molded to our bodies and felt good on our hips and shoulders and did not cause any numbness or discomfort.

It also didn’t make us feel stuck in foam and allowed us to easily change positions and get in and out of bed during the night.

Sleeping Hot

The Brentwood Home Cypress sleeps quite cool due to the breathable charcoal-infused memory foam in the top comfort layer which allows greater airflow through the mattress and helps wick away excessive heat an moisture to keep you cool and dry all night long.

The soft and breathable cover of this mattress allows the air to circulate freely through the mattress and aids in cooling.

Sinkage & Motion Transfer

The Brentwood Home Cypress does a good job of minimizing the amount of sinkage and motion transfer.

As we always preach, sinkage and motion transfer are largely weight dependent and fact that I weight around 230lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on a mattress. Kaye, who is half my weight, experiences much less, naturally.

There wasn’t too much sinkage with this mattress. It is true that I compressed the softer top comfort layer to a certain degree, but the slightly firmer transition layer below and the firm base layer prevented me from sinking even further into the mattress and feeling trapped in foam.

These layers lifted my heavy weight and our combined weights sleeping as a couple with ease and distributed them evenly across the bed.

I also didn’t cause Kaye to roll into me due to the difference in our weight and didn’t cause her well-known feel of “sinking into a hole”.

Edge support was also good with this mattress and better than with most other all foam mattresses that we have tested so far. I didn’t bottom our when sitting near the edges and didn’t feel as if I was sliding off the bed that was often the case with many thinner low quality all foam mattresses.

As for motion transfer, there was almost no motion transfer with this mattress due to its all foam construction and the use of high density foams which minimized movements between us to the least bit. Therefore, we didn’t feel any disruption in our sleep when getting in and out of bed and changing positions during the night.

Smell / Off-Gassing

The Brentwood Home Cypress gets high marks in this category for not having too much of a noticeable smell upon opening the box.

Most foam mattresses experience a degree of off-gassing and odor from being compressed and packaged in plastic for shipping, but the Cypress differs from most in this regard by not having very much at all.

Brentwood Home provides above the standard amount of customer service you can expect in a “Bed In A Box” online mattress retailer, by having a generous 25 year warranty and 1 year sleep trial. This includes:

The combination of foam layers used in the design of the Cypress work together to provide a very comfortable yet supportive mattress that is ideal for all sleeping positions.
