- You like softer mattresses – As mentioned, the Allswell Brick mattress offers a somewhat firmer feel and may not be the best choice for you if you prefer mattresses with a softer feel.
Construction and Materials
The Allswell Brick mattress is a 12″ hybrid mattress made up of the following layers:
- Top Layer – This mattress features a firmer top layer designed to provide optimal support and cushioning at the same time.
- 1″ Copper Gel Infused Memory Foam Layer – This layer is 1″ of the cooling copper-infused memory foam designed to provide optimal freshness. It will prevent the build-up of excessive body heat and keep you cool and comfortable all night long.
- 2″ High Density Foam Layer – This layer is 2″ of high density foam that provides added support for proper spinal alignment and serves as a transition layer between the softer foam layers above and a firm coil system below.
- Individually Wrapped Coil Layer – This layer features individually-wrapped pocketed coils designed to provide expected bounce and support while minimizing motion transfer and encourage airflow through the mattress. It also provides excellent edge support on all 4 sides.
The cover of this mattress, like the covers of all previous Alswell mattresses that we have reviewed, is made of the company’s special fabric that is breathable, soft and cool to the touch. It improves the airflow through the mattress and aids in cooling.
In addition, the cover is quilted with a firmer foam that makes up the top layer of this mattress. It will allow you to freely move around in bed without making you feel stuck in foam while it will also promote better support and comfort.
Firmness & Support
The Allswell Brick mattress only comes in one firmness option. We felt it to be more on the firmer side and we rate it at a 7 out of 10 (10 being the firmest).
The company rates this mattress in a range from 5.5 to 7.5 as you can see from the firmness scale given below, which you can also find on their site.
As we always tend to mention, the firmness of a mattress largely depends on your weight and body type. With so many mattresses, since I am a heavier sleeper (230 lbs), I tend to press through the top comfort layers and feel more of the firmer and bouncy spring layers below.
However, this wasn’t the case with the Allswell Brick. I didn’t compress the firmer top layer and dense foam layers bellow too much at all. They all worked perfectly with the pocketed coil system to lift my heavy body weight and our combined weights sleeping as a couple and distribute them evenly across the bed.
So, I didn’t feel the hard pocketed coil system below or any other kind of discomfort. The mattress also allowed me to move around in bed freely and change positions without making me feel stuck in foam.
In terms of support, the Allswell Brick mattress provides excellent support in all sleeping positions and for all types of sleepers, including heavier sleepers such as myself (230 lbs).
Although the mattress offers a somewhat firmer feel and is designed for stomach and back sleepers, it can work perfectly well for side sleepers as well.
It has just enough give in the top comfort layers to cradle hips and shoulders and prevent the appearance of pressure points or stiffness that some firm mattresses tend to cause.
We are primarily side sleepers and we like how this mattress worked for us. It relieved our pressure points and kept our spines naturally aligned while sleeping on our sides and it was also of a perfect firmness for back and stomach sleeping.
Comfort
The Allswell Brick is quite comfortable mattress, regardless of its firmer feel. Its top comfort layers offer just enough give to cushion your hips and shoulders and prevent the appearance of pressure points.
They will allow you to sink into them to a certain degree and eliminate the possibility of the appearance of numbness or stiffness in your limbs.
A durable pocketed coil system below will work with these foam layers to provide the right amount of support to those areas of your body where it is needed the most and promote proper spinal alignment regardless of your preferred sleeping position.
All these layers work together to provide extraordinary comfort and restorative benefits and will also allow you to enjoy a cooler sleep and many other benefits of copper gel infused memory foam.
Various foam layers used in the construction of this mattress, combined with the pocketed coil layer offer enough bounce and responsiveness which facilitates moving around in bed, changing positions and getting in and out of bed during the night.
This also makes the Allswell Brick mattress an ideal mattress for sex.
Sleeping Hot
This mattress sleeps incredibly cool due to special cooling foam layers, breathable cover and pocketed coil system that allows greater airflow through the mattress to prevent the build up of heat.
The copper infused memory foam layer has some natural cooling properties that dissipate excessive body heat and prevent its retention, while the individually wrapped coils allow greater airflow through the mattress and work well with all other layers to keep you cool and comfortable all night long.
The soft and breathable cover creates a cool sleeping surface that is pleasant to the touch and it does a great job with the rest of the mattress to prevent overheating and sweating during the night.
We did not experience that sticky, sweaty feeling typical for most all foam mattresses or hybrid mattresses using memory foam in its construction, which was something that we really were thankful for.
Sinkage and Motion Transfer
The Allswell Brick mattress does an excellent job with sinkage and motion transfer as well and gets high marks in this category.
As we always preach, sinkage and motion transfer are, just like the firmness, largely weight dependent, and the fact that I weigh around 230 lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on mattresses.
I often compress the top comfort layers quite a bit and feel more of the firmer support layers below, while Kaye experiences less sinkage due to her much lighter weight.
With this mattress, there wasn’t too much sinkage at all. The foam layers on top allowed me to sink into them to a certain degree, but not too much and the firm and durable pocketed coil system worked perfectly with these foam layers to lift my heavy body weight and our weights combined sleeping as a couple and distributed them evenly across the bed.
The special construction of this mattress allowed us to easily change positions and get in and out of bed without making us feel trapped in foam. It also didn’t cause Kaye to roll into me due to our weight disparity or experience that well-known feel of “sinking into a hole”.
The edge support is also excellent with this mattress. It’s great on all 4 sides and I didn’t compress the edges too much when sitting or sleeping near them. The mattress also didn’t cause the feel of “rolling off” the edges.
As for motion transfer, it was minimal with the Allswell Brick mattress due to the use of pocketed coils and memory foam in its comfort layers which is known to offer superior reduction in motion transfer between sleepers moving during the night.
Smell / Off-Gassing
The Alswell Brick gets high marks in this category for not having too much of a noticeable smell upon opening the box. The hybrid coil / foam construction minimized the degree of off-gassing that all foam mattresses usually have.

Summary
Overall, the Allswell Brick is another amazing Allswell hybrid that can compete with premium mattresses costing much more. It combines pocketed coils and layers of special high-quality foams with a soft and extremely comfortable cover to provide a perfect balance of comfort and support and the best sleeping experience.
It provides a somewhat firmer feel and is, therefore, perfect for back and stomach sleepers and those who suffer from back pain. However, the mattress can work perfectly well for side sleeping too as it offers just enough give in its top comfort layers to prevent the appearance of pressure points and any stiffness in hips and shoulders.
The Allswell Brick is also an ideal mattress for heavier sleepers as it can support their heavy body weight with ease and distribute it evenly across the bed without making them sink too much into the mattress and feel wrapped by it or making their moving around in bed difficult in any way.
It also sleeps incredibly cool due to the special copper gel-infused memory foam and pocketed coils used in its construction that allow greater airflow through the mattress and prevent the retention of the excessive body heat.
All in all, the Allswell Brick is an amazing new mattress made of premium materials that can provide you with excellent support in all sleeping positions and with everything you need for a restorative and sound night’s sleep.
