Construction and Materials
The IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid mattress is a 14″ hybrid pocketed coil and latex mattress made up of 5 layers, with the top comfort layers which are basically duplicated when flipped over.
- 1″ Top Comfort Layer – This layer is 1″ of a natural wool quilted into the cover and designed to provide softness and comfort. It also acts as a natural fire barrier.
- 3″ Response Layer – This layer is 3″ of 100% Pure GOLS Certified Dunlop Latex designed to provide open cell breathability and an optimal level of support. It also provides cooling, responsiveness and bounce to the mattress and is naturally hypoallergenic and anti-microbial.
- 6″ Support Layer – This layer is 6″ of Quantum edge-to-edge high quality steel pocketed innerspring coils sandwiched between that act as the core support to the mattress and provide deep compression support with great edge support.
- 3″ Response Layer – same as the top layers

The cover of the IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid mattress is a highly breathable, all natural organic cotton cover which goes all the way around the mattress, allows greater airflow through the mattress and aids in cooling.
The cover features double button tufting soft yarn rosettes which hold the layers of the mattress together and increases the overall durability and stability of this mattress.

There are also carry handles on each side of the mattress which allow you to easily move around the mattress and flip it over whenever you want.
Dual Sided Design
The IDLE Sleep mattresses differs from almost every mattress on the market these days (or at least bed in the box models), in that they have the ability to be flipped over and help prevent body indentation and softening up of the bed over time and this one is no exception either.
Most of the flippable beds we have tested have a different firmness on each side, but IDLE differentiates their offering by having the option of the SAME firmness on each side, thus allowing you to flip and rotate your bed like a traditional mattress you may be used to.
IDLE does offer different firmness options on each side as well if you desire this (firm vs medium), but choosing this essentially makes it single-sided if you keep it on one firmness choice.
This will help extend the life of your mattress and also prevents any indentations or sagging from occurring if you or your partner is heavier than the other, by enabling you to flip and rotate the bed.
Firmness & Support
The IDLE Sleep hybrid mattress comes in two firmness levels, Medium and Luxury Firm. It also allows you to select the firmness of each side of the bed and have two Firm sides, two Medium sides or one Medium and one Firm side.
We tested the mattress and felt the Medium side to be around a 6.5 on the firmness scale (10 being the firmest) and the Luxury Firm around 9. The company has their own firmness scale on their site where they rate it in a range you can see below.

We felt the both sides of the the IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid were a bit firmer. Over time possibly the mattress may soften up, but initially with the hybrid coil/latex construction we feel it is on the firmer end of the spectrum. This is more a function on latex itself, which is naturally buoyant and provides that “sleeping on top of” feel to a mattress.
With most mattresses I tend to press through the top comfort layers and feel more of the support layers which are hard and not so comfortable, but this wasn’t the case with the IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid mattress.
The nice 14″ thick design combined with the pocketed coil system and latex layers did a great job of lifting my heavy body weight and supporting it with ease.
Both sides did not cause me to sink too much into the mattress and feel enveloped by it and they provided more of the feel of floating and sleeping on top of a mattress rather than inside it.
The nice 14″ thickness of the IDLE Sleep mattress with its high quality pocketed coil support layer helped support both my heavier 230lb weight and combined weight with Kaye.
In terms of support, the IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid mattress does an excellent job of providing extraordinary support in all sleeping positions, with the top comfort layer of wool and the highest quality latex beneath providing a bit of contouring and necessary pressure relief and the underlying pocketed spring support layer providing the deep compression support for the body.
Since Kaye and myself are primarily side sleepers, we like mattresses that provide enough give in the top comfort layers to cradle our shoulders and hips and prevent the appearance of pressure points, while also having the firmness if we switch to our stomachs and backs.
The Medium side of the IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid is most likely much more suited for this compared to the Luxury Firm side.

All in all, this new hybrid mattress provides an ideal amount of support a heavier sleeper like myself needs (230 lbs).
Combo sleepers and those who prefer sleeping on their side, back sleepers and stomach sleepers should consider sleeping on the Medium firness option (or side) of the IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid. It will work perfectly for them and provide them with just the right amount of pressure relieving comfort and support.
The Luxury Firm option of this mattress would work best for back sleepers. It will provide them with excellent support and keep their spines properly aligned.
Comfort
The IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid mattress is an extremely comfortable mattress with its soft organic cotton cover and wool beneath providing a pleasant and cool sleeping surface and a natural latex layer offering good amount of pressure relief, support and a nice degree of bounce and responsiveness.
The first thing we felt when we lay down on this mattress was how soft the cover was in combination with the wool layer. Together they provide a plush, gentle feel and help transition your body weight into the firmer latex layer below. They also keep the surface of the bed cool and pleasant to the touch.
A nice 14″ thickness of this mattress, combined with the natural latex and pocketed coil system will cradle your body to provide excellent pressure relief while also having enough firmness and support necessary to keep your spine properly aligned in all sleeping positions.

The pocketed coil support system does a great job at supporting my heavier weight as well as our combined weight as a couple and worked perfectly well with the latex layer to provide a high degree of bounce and responsiveness.
This makes the mattress great for sex as it provides a good degree of push-back and bounce needed for sex without making you feel trapped in bed. It will also allow you to easily change positions and get in and out of bed during the night.
Sleeping Hot
The IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid mattress sleeps pretty cool although it doesn’t feature some special cooling technologies.
This mattress uses natural latex, organic cotton and wool in its construction, all of which are known for their cooling properties.
Latex sleeps quite cool since it doesn’t trap heat and is aerated, while wool has natural thermoregulating properties which will help keep you cool during summer and warm in winter.
The combination of these materials with the pocketed coil system allows greater airflow through the mattress, wicks away moisture and ensures the mattress sleeps cooler than most mattresses we have reviewed.
Sleeping hot is a big pet peeve of ours, but the IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid mattress solved this issue by incorporating various cooling materials in its construction.
It didn’t cause us to wake up feeling hot and sticky during the night, which was of great importance to us living in Texas and sleeping as a couple.
Sinkage & Motion Transfer
The IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid mattress does a good job of minimizing the amount of sinkage and motion transfer, especially compared to most mattresses we have reviewed.
As we always preach, sinkage and motion transfer are largely weight dependent and the fact that I weigh around 230lbs tends to have a rather large bearing on the degree of sinkage I experience when sitting and lying on a mattress, something that my partner Kaye doesn’t experience.
Because of my heavy weight, I tend to compress the mattresses quite a bit when sitting on the edge or upright in bed. Kaye, being half my weight, experiences much less sinkage than I do.
With the IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid mattress, however, this isn’t a problem at all due to its thick 14″ design and high quality picketed coil layer along with latex layers and wool on top.
Together, the hybrid materials lifted my weight and our combined weights as a couple with ease and distributed them evenly across the bed.
The mattress minimizes the amount of sinkage and provides more of the floating feel and the feel of “sleeping on top of” the mattress rather than “sleeping down in” like some memory foam beds feel.

Edge support is also good with this mattress and better than many mattresses we have reviewed due to the edge-to-edge Quantum coil design of the mattress.
We tested this by sleeping near the edge at times and did not experience any of the “rolling off” the edges or having them compressed under our weight.
As for motion transfer, this is a little more noticeable with this mattress than in most other mattresses that we have tested that feature memory foam in their construction instead of latex and coils.
But, this is to be expected due to its hybrid construction and the use of pocketed springs and natural latex that is known for the bounce and responsiveness that it provides. But, it was nothing too serious and did not interfere with our sleep.
Smell / Off-Gassing
The IDLE Sleep Natural Latex Hybrid mattress gets high marks in this category for not having too much of a noticeable smell upon opening the box.
The hybrid coil / latex construction minimized the degree of off-gassing that all foam mattresses usually have. Any smell that was present dissipated quickly, within a few hours.
