There are so many choices on the market these days to choose from, from in-store brands like Sealy, Simmons, Tempur Pedic, and more, to popular online mattresses like Casper, Loom and Leaf, Nectar, Nest Bedding, and others.
In this guide, we’re focusing on what we feel are the best mattresses that are on the market today.
This isn’t an exhaustive list of all the great mattresses out there, it is our Top 10 Best Mattress Reviews for 2017.
These are mattresses we have slept on personally and reviewed this year, and out of all the ones we have slept on (see our complete list of Mattress Reviews for all the ones we have tested), these are the ones we feel are the best.
Who makes the Top 10 Best Mattress Review list of 2017?
There are many factors that go into making the decision on what the best mattress is for someone. In many ways, this is pretty subjective and can involve a lot of different criteria.
We don’t feel there is any one mattress that is perfect for all sleepers, so this Top 10 Best Mattress Review list has all different types depending on your needs or preference
Here at Memory Foam Talk, we evaluate mattresses on quite a few criteria, such as firmness/support, comfort, value, sleeping hot, motion transfer, and other factors.
We test mattresses as a couple, so we know how things feel in the real world with two people sharing a bed, moving around at night, etc..
Each of these mattresses below we feel are the best out of the over 50 mattresses we have tested. They are from established (relatively established, given the online industry is new) and new companies.
These mattresses are the best in their given category and represent many different mattress types: memory foam, latex, latex hybrids, innerspring hybrids, and customizable mattresses for the best individual comfort.
We present a summary table below, then detailed descriptions of each mattress to follow.. with links to reviews, mattress discount codes if available, and more.

Loom & Leaf
The Loom and Leaf mattress is our highest rated mattress on our list for many reasons. This 12″ thick mattress is made up of 5 different layers of high quality foams and other materials including medical grade cooling gel in the comfort layer.
The mattress comes in a Relaxed Firm model as well as a Firm version which both provide comfort and excellent support for the spine and body.
The Loom & Leaf is one of the best mattresses out there today due to the exceptional comfort and support, as well as the classic memory foam feel of hugging and contouring the body during sleep.
The Loom and Leaf doesn’t make you feel like you are sinking into foam like other mattresses, however, which is something that other lower quality mattresses in this price range can’t promise.
One big difference of the Loom and Leaf is that it doesn’t ship compressed in a box like most online mattresses on the market these days. This allows for the use of premium materials that don’t need to be compressed down.
At $1099 for a Queen, the quality and comfort rival much more expensive brands such as Tempur Pedic.
The Nectar Sleep is a close second behind Loom and Leaf as one of the best mattresses of the new year, due to the exceptional value and unparalleled sleep trial and warranty the offer.
This 11″ thick mattress is made up of 4 different layers of high quality foams and other materials including medical grade cooling gel and very luxurious materials in the top cover including Tencel.
The mattress comes in a Medium Firm universal comfort model, which provides the firmness and support in the lower layers with a very soft and luxurious top comfort layer that uses very premium materials.
Nectar has been on the market for over a year, and has gotten quite a bit of press in major publications for its very high quality mattress that rivals much more expensive brands at a fraction of the cost.
The Nectar provides excellent support in all sleeping positions, and as stated – the level of craftsmanship and quality make for a very comfortable sleeping environment
One of the great differences with Nectar Sleep is their commitment to their product and customer. They offer a 365-night sleep trial and “Forever Warranty” for the life of the bed. Something other competing companies just can’t beat.
At $795 ($670 with our $125 MFT125 coupon), the level of quality and comfort are extremely hard to top for a mattress of this quality and easily is our #2 best mattress.
The Layla mattress is a very unique mattress, in that it allows you to choose from two different firmness options just by unzipping the cover and flipping over the mattress. In addition, Layla also uses copper technology in their mattress which helps keep it cool and provides other health benefits.
Layla recently made some changes to their mattress, including improving edge support and the internal layer design. These changes helped Layla jump to the #3 spot on our Best Mattress of 2017 list.
The Layla is a very comfortable mattress which sleeps cool due to the copper infused cover and ThermoGel technology.
A unique feature of the Layla is its ability to be flipped over and offer two different firmness options, a Medium (5-6 out of 10 on firmness scale), and a Firm (7-8 on firmness scale).
The Layla is a very quality mattress that is good for couples and those wanting a choice of firmness options. At $799 for a queen size (after applying our exclusive Memory Foam $100 off coupon), this mattress is a great bargain with features that other mattresses costing much more simply don’t have.
The Zenhaven mattress is our top pick for 100% latex mattresses on the market today, due to the very high quality materials used in the mattress. Zenhaven uses 100% Talalay latex in their mattress, which is the highest quality latex on the market.
Zenhaven is from the Saatva company, which also makes our #1 pick on the Best Mattress of 2017 list, Loom and Leaf, so they know a thing or two about making a great mattress. The Zenhaven uses the same high quality materials and craftsman ship as Loom and Leaf and Saatva, but at a fraction of the price of competing 100% Latex mattresses.
A unique feature of the Zenhaven is its ability to be flipped over and offer two different firmness options, a Luxury Plush (4-5 out of 10 on firmness scale), and a Gentle Firm (7-8 on firmness scale).
The Zenhaven is a very comfortable and quality mattress especially given the very high-end materials and craftsmanship. At $1899 for a queen size, this luxury mattress is a a fraction of what similar high end latex mattresses go for and one of the best latex mattresses on the market today.
The GhostBed is our favorite latex hybrid mattress, and one of the best values on the market today. At a nice thick 11″ high, the GhostBed provides great support for all sleeper types and weights and is also very good for couples sharing a bed.
The GhostBed is a memory foam and latex foam hybrid, so it provides the best of both worlds with the bounce and resiliency of latex with the body contour and hug of memory foam.
The GhostBed is a very good alternative to brands such as Casper and Leesa, and has been one of our top picks for best mattress of the year for its comfort, value, and support.
The GhostBed is on the Medium Firm end of the firmness spectrum, coming in around a 7 (out of 10 on the firmness scale). Initially it feels firm, but softens up over time and molds to your body. The exterior of the GhostBed is especially nice and offers a textured almost massage-like feel to the mattress.
GhostBed also has great pillows as well and an affordable foundation that matches the mattress. At $750 (less $50 off with our coupon), the quality and value are hard to beat.
Nest Bedding Alexander Signature
Nest Bedding is one of our favorite companies, and for good reason. They have a wide selection of high quality mattresses, pillows, bedding, and other sleep products and all of them are quite good.
The Alexander Signature Series is Nest Bedding’s most popular memory foam mattress, and is approximately 13″ high with multiple layers of memory foam, gel foam, and SmartFlow Air Flow foam.
The Alexander comes in 3 firmness options, Soft, Medium, and Firm, and is suitable for all sleeping preferences and very supportive for all sleeping styles.
The materials and quality design of the Nest Bedding Alexander Signature mattress, as well as the support and overall comfort, all contribute to this bed being one of the best mattresses on the market today.
We like all of Nest Bedding’s products as mentioned, and the Alexander Signature really does a great job at providing an excellent mattress at a very good price as well – only $999 with our $200 off coupon
Avocado Green Mattress
The Avocado mattress is a new luxury latex and coil hybrid mattress that uses eco-friendly and green materials in its construction. The Avocado Green mattress is handcrafted in the USA without petroleum-based polyurethane foam, without toxic flame retardants, without dangerous pesticides, and without risk from volatile chemicals and gasses.
The Avocado is a great all natural latex hybrid mattress that appeals to all sleepers. It provides exceptional comfort and support, with bounce and responsiveness from the latex and innersrping hybrid construction.
The Avocado is an 11″ mattress which comes in at a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, more on the soft/medium side but very comfortable and supportive for all sleeper types. The bounce and responsiveness makes the mattress great for couples without causing too much movement.
At $1399 the Avocado is a little more expensive than most bed in a box mattresses, but this is due to the high quality, organic materials and construction used in the mattress. You can save $150 on an Avocado now using our discount code below.
The Zotto is one of our favorite mattresses we have reviewed at Memory Foam Talk, and easily makes our Top 10 Best Reviewed Mattress of 2017 list due to its exceptional comfort, support, and cool sleeping all memory foam construction.
The Zotto has the classic memory foam feel with great body hug and sinkage without causing that “trapped in foam” sensation. In addition, their use of ThermaPhase materials and CoolFlow foam do an excellent job at preventing heat buildup during the night which is especially important for couples sharing a mattress.
The Zotto is one of our favorite mattresses for couples, as it isolates motion between sleeping partners as well as reduces heat retention between sleepers. In addition, it is a very comfortable bed and one we sleep on in between reviewing other beds.
The Zotto has a plush top layer, and feels around a 5/6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, but provides excellent support without causing sinkage and ensuring great support for all sleeper weights and sleeping styles.
At $875 for a queen (less $75 with our discount), it is a great mattress for the money and just overall.
Brentwood Home Mirador
The Brentwood Home Mirador mattress is a luxury latex and microcoil hybrid in mattress that Brentwood Home just released. The Mirador is their luxury latex and coil hybrid model in the new mattress lineup which uses super premium materials and is one of the nicest mattresses we have tested to date.
Brentwood Home really sets themselves apart from the majority of “Bed-in-A-Box” mattresses by using such premium materials in the Mirador mattress such as the New Zealand Wool, Belgian Knit, silk, cashmere and the multiple latex, foam, and micro coil layers in its construction.
The Mirador is a 15″ high latex and coil hybrid that uses latex foam, memory foam, and latex micro coil construction to provide a mattress that supports all sleeper weights and preferences.
The Mirador feels around a 6 or so on the firmness spectrum (10 being firmest), with the top comfort layers providing bounce and response while the underlying foam layers provide overall support.
While it is on the more expensive end of the spectrum, the quality of materials and craftmanship really set the Mirador apart from the many “copycat” Bed in a Box mattresses. You really do get what you pay for. A queen sells for $1649 but you can save $200 with our coupon below.
The Wright W1.27 mattress was created to deliver a luxury sleeping experience like no other. The founders of the Wright spent two years of R&D and 27 rounds of prototyping to provide the perfect balance of comfort, support, responsiveness, and breathability.
The Wright mattress is a 12″ thick, 4 layer memory foam mattress that uses a variety of high quality, high density memory foam combined with their own 3BELOW foam that promises to sleep 3 degrees cooler than competing memory foam mattresses.
The Wright is a universal comfort mattress that is around a 6-7 on the firmness scale (10 being firmest). The high density, slow response foam construction has a soft top comfort layer then slowly molds to your body when sleeping.
At $1795 for a queen mattress (less our $200 discount), the Wright is definitely one of the higher priced mattresses we have tested, but it is worth every penny and on par with in-store models costing 3-4x as much.
